33 Gen 2 SBC / 700R4 and the engine looks to me to be sitting forward a lot but, I don't know any better. Has adapter plates on the engine mounts. Does this look correct?

Looks ok to me. If the distributor was there it looks like it would fit just right.

Did you scrape the paint away where the ground strap is bolted to the mount?

Don't know if the previous owner/builder did but I'll sure take a look at it now that you mentioned it, Thank you
