Glove box lock

I finished laying out my dash a couple of weeks ago and this past weekend I got everything wired up. I wanted to mount something on the back side of the glove box and when I went to unlock it I found the keys don't work anymore. Initially I had a problem getting the key in so I put a couple of drops of oil on the key and now they go in easily but still no luck turning them. Anybody else run across this?

I removed the lock and played around with them for a while, no luck.

Thinking about replacing the lock with a push button.

I should also say that two weeks ago when I installed the glove box in the dash the keys worked flawlessly
