Hi all, while waiting my kit to be built I want to build a hoist system in my garage to hold the body on the buck while I get the chassis done, and wondering what the body weighs so that I can get the right strength equipment. Does anyone know?

About 125-150 lbs

not much... i can pick it up myself. I used two of these https://a.co/d/djETcA6

Built the body buck, but had the 2x4's extend a little beyond the wheel wells and then just hook these on the 2x4's and hoist it up.

If your looking for a video about how to build a hoist system, I used the video these clever kids made to design mine. I used a Harbor Freight electric hoist that can handle I believe 4 or 500 pounds. Since I was going to be working under the body buck with the body on it, I did run my plan by my structural engineer brother to confirm these two kids idea wouldn't potentially result in my death.

Doesn't have to be complicated. I was going to do something like JeffP and have everything tied to the wall. My brother talked me out of it. Simple eye bolt attached to a pulley. Weight isn't that much on each eye bolt. Put a 2x4 through the tire wells, attached them to the body buck, and tied the rope to the 2x4s. Lifted one corner at a time, wrapped the rope a few times around the 2x4 (friction holds it in place) and lifted the body up. At the end, I wrapped the remaining rope around the 2x4. Because I didn't want anything permanent and I have enough cost overruns, I kept the process as cheap as possible. Works great.

Because I worry, I did tie off that last part of the rope. Only thing I would have done different is trimmed the bottom of the body buck down some. Ceiling is 9 feet and I can walk under the body buck, but it obstructs the TV when I am trying to follow the manual.

I would estimate the bare body around 85 lbs, my wife and I can easily move it around. It's easy to build a buck that weighs more that the body, don't ask me how I know. The vertical load on the buck from the body is practically nil so the plywood used doesn't need to be very thick. Build the buck as light as you can. Or even better just use a couple of 2x4's under the wheelwells.

The body weighs 110 pounds.

Hi Jeff P,

Does your hoisted MkIV body clear your opened garage doors, or do you unmount it before opening those up?

I have to confess, I never thought of that arrangement before :)

It clears it by a couple inches, you can see our other car parked under it.
