Dave, my Mercedes SSK roadster project was acquired as an Excalibur with 13K miles. The aluminum hood panels were fastened on the vertical sides with Dzus fasteners.
The road impact loads caused the panels to jostle vertically and elongate the holes for the Dzus fasteners.
My fix was to repair and reinforce the panel holes with another layer. The flat side panels are now fastened with 1/4-20 Well-nuts (rubber). The wrapped top panels have new Dzus, but the panels are isolated on the lateral surfaces by leather strips on the cowl and radiator housing. The top panels do not jostle.
Your side pin reinforcement plate and rivets may need to be more robust and/or a rubber damper strip between the hood and rocker panel may keep the hood from pounding out the pin.
