Any builders out there living in NYC?
I'm in queens and thinking about building a roadster, but i have a small one car garage. Just wondering if anyone else has built one in a small NYC one car garage and how it went.
Also how did you store your body during the build?
I'd love to hear any stores and/or advice.
thank you

Thanks for the pic Wayne. i have a really low ceiling in my garage so hanging it isn't an option. my garage is 11'x20'x6.5'
what are the dimensions of your garage? it looks a lot bigger than mine.
I'm also not from NY but I built mine in a 10.5' x 18' single car garage. It was only doable because I had enough height to store the body above and all of the boxes of parts in a separate room. You have a little more space than I did so if you can find a spot for the body and have another place for the boxes you will be fine. I definitely recommend a frame dolly though. With limited space it is nice to be able to push the frame around to give yourself more space depending on the side you are working on.

Mine is 11’ x 18’ x 9’6” . In the beginning I used a raised body buck I rolled out when working on the frame .

thanks for the info i appreciate it. makes me feel more confident in the amount of space it have!
I'm planning on keeping the boxes in the adjoining basement but still not sure on the body. maybe outside in the backyard or i may rent a $torage $pace

I'm in upstate NY with a 2 car garage but if I'm not mistaken FF stores their bodies outside. Have heard of others doing it also. Should not be an issue.

If you have extra space for the boxes then you won't have a problem with 11 x 20. I'm pretty sure it has been mentioned in past threads that leaving the body outside is not a big deal, but hopefully one of the experts will chime in and give you the official word on that.

I did the same as Wayne and built a raised body buck on casters. Rolled it outside when working on the chassis.

I had a neighbor that stored his in his yard. I’ve read others on the forum storing in their yard. I plan on doing the same.
I’m on the island now, originally from queens.
Good luck with your plans.

Put it on a simple buck with the cockpit brace and it will be fine.

You got your expert opinion on storing the body outside. Now you know you can build it in the space you have. Good luck and enjoy!
