Hi all,

Has anyone used Mike Forte's Power steering set up with a coyote.

I'm sure it's good quality, he seems to have a pretty good reputation around here.
.....any feedback welcome

Thanks
George

I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything Mike sells. He doesn't sell garbage and it's worth it for the customer service alone.

The tough part of working with a Coyote is the size of the booster and making it fit next to the Coyote. I used the Ford OEM hydroboost from my 2004 Mach 1 donor and the 4.6L DOHC. The 4.6L DOHC is virtually the same size as the Coyote, so the Ford OEM hydroboost should fit as it did in my MK4.
I am using the KRC pump kit with integral reservoir on my 2nd Gen Coyote in my 70 Mustang restomod. The KRC pump is the standard PS pump for the Coyote. Fits well, just requires a lot of PS hoses with the hydroboost.
I can share pics of both solutions. Power by the Hour has a setup where you can put the OEM Modular Mustang PS pump in the original location, but you have to relocate the alternator. Their standard solution turns the alternator around, I would want it in the standard compressor location. Not sure if PBH has that configuration.
You can mix and match parts from different vendors as my hydroboost is from Hydrotech, cooler is part of my radiator from C&R, PS rack is from Total Control Products. For my AC using OEM compressor with Vintage Air evaporator, condenser, dryer, etc. to piece it together. Phone calls to the respective vendors are priceless, call an talk with the experts.

Looks like this thread got a little off topic with a brakes discussion when the OP only asked about power steering... I posted a similar response over on the other forum. But a little further response here after digging a bit deeper.

For the Coyote, I've used the KRC setup. It directly bolts to the Coyote and doesn't interfere with any of the other accessories, e.g. alternator, water pump, and the A/C pump location even if you don't use it. It has an integral tank, so reduces the amount of plumbing required and the need to mount a separate reservoir. It has changeable flow valves to adjust the amount of boost. (I recommend the smallest one.) And the pump is an in-house produced part that is very high quality. Ford never designed a PS pump for the Coyote since the vehicles it goes into have EPAS setups. So any engine driven hydraulic setup will be from the aftermarket. Factory Five used to provide an OE mod motor pump with an adapter for their Coyote PS option. But have switched to the KRC setup. Looking at Forte's website, he sells a Coyote setup using an OE mod motor pump and custom bracket. So clearly that's what he'd supply if you bought the engine from him with PS. It's half the price, so that's obviously a consideration. But it does sit in the A/C pump location on the Coyote. Maybe not a consideration if you're not installing A/C. But something to be aware of. It will require a separate reservoir and related plumbing (not included in his kit) and isn't adjustable out of the box. There are options, like a Heidt's valve, which I have no personal experience with. Those pumps were used on a lot of Ford vehicles, so arguably durable for our cars. But for several reasons, I prefer the KRC setup and have used it in two builds. But it's of course your choice. Knowing Mike, I'm positive he would say his is better and cheaper. I'll leave it at that. :p

This picture is the KRC setup on the Gen 3 Coyote in my Coupe and shows where it's mounted. In this case the build has A/C, so an adapted setup in that location isn't an option.

Mike is setting up for AC as well as Hydroboost for brakes, so maybe something different.
I like the integrated reservoir.
I will give him a call.
Thank you very much for your input!!!

Hydroboost brakes don't really affect the decision. Either pump (OE or KRC) will work. Just more plumbing. I've done it. I'd personally be insistent that the A/C pump is installed into the OE location. The proper Ford pump bolts directly to the block with no modifications and is driven off the existing crankshaft pulley.

Hi Edwardb,

I spoke with Mike. Because of the inclusion of AC, he assured me it is the KRC with the integrated reservoir.

Again, I thank you for your input.
I know I will have many missteps along the way.
Having support like this is invaluable.
Hopefully I will be able to pay it forward in the future.

Here is my gen 3 coyote that I just dropped into my roadster last night. Bought it from Forte with the KRC power steering and Mustang AC compressor.

Funny you say that, I often feel the same way. I figured I could get a picture of my engine I bought from Forte to help you out, but as usual Paul beats me to it and sends a picture of his engine. :)

So he beat you to the puch....lol.
I still appreciate another coming from the same builder.

Thank you!!!

I have a Gen 2 Coyote with the integrated KRC power steering pump and Forte's hydroboost system. When I bought my hydroboost (about a year ago), Mike offered two options for the dual master cylinder - Wilwood or Ford. I went with the Wilwood and also added a proportioning valve to adjust the rear brakes (some say it is not needed, I have no basis for comparison). This is what Forte's hydroboost system looks like if you are interested:
