For my 818, I received some back ordered spacers that should be 0.43” but I was sent 0.40”.

They were documented as 0.40”, this isn’t something I have determined through measurement.

My question is - are they OK to use in place of the 0.43 or is that extra 0.03 critical? I have received 12, which I think is almost the whole set required in the kit, so it’s not the odd one or two.

Is it possible that there have been problems there? Opening up a tolerance is usually a quick fix for interferences. As far as clearances, I’d say you don’t want to see much deflection in the tabs as you tighten the bolt. Adjust accordingly. Some may prefer to bias the shock body by using unequal thickness spacers. Use a set of calipers to measure the relaxed opening of your mounting tabs, subtract the width of the item (shock eye), then divide the resulting number any way you wish to accommodate your setup. I usually allow for about .010” clearance which makes assembly much easier. Also, cut a dowel that fits your shock eye to the width of the tab opening. With this you can assemble the shock and spacers on the dowel, then insert the entirety between the tabs and push your bolt through, displacing the dowel. This helps assembly immensely.
