the hole on the bottom left pic, it's not the return line (2nd pic) -what is it for?

that's what we thought as well, but the hole I'm referring to is smooth - no threads
the return line connects to the pump which is attached to the tank

There is a bolt in that hole that fastens the reservoir to the pump. Pressure out the bottom, return at the top.

And just checking; you did get the ID:4 flow valve, yes? I can’t believe how sensitive the steering is even with the most restrictive valve, way better than the standard one though.

yes I got the KRC Power Steering KRC 25304000 Aluminium Flow Valve (6AN Male ID - 4) (https://amzn.to/3EX5BAL) as recommended by MANY on here :)
