Hi again,

I am trying to get my tach to “tach”properly with my coyote engine. I tapped into the purple wire at the coil closest to the driver and it is erratic and does not work. Luckily people suggested using a tach adapter 9117 from auto meter to make it work. Now I am at the phase of making it work.

A forum member was nice enough to supply me with the auto meter adapter 9117 item for a good deal.
He even provided the schematic instructions that came with it. Here they are. If I am understanding it correctly I will use the lower schematic.

I understand how to wire it and splice it in to the wire that feeds all the coils. It looks simple. It appears to take the main coil wire and route it through this adapter and all I need to do is connect a ground and my old purple tach wire to this adapter and it should work.

Here is the control pack fuse and wiring diagram.

I know I need to grab the VPWr4 from the bundle that runs out of the coyote distribution box or I need to find a wire in the back of the engine harness that powers all the coils. The Coyote PDB is really inconvenient to get to now that the engine is in. I have heard others grab the coil wire from somewhere in the harness.

Can anyone draw a picture or send a pick of where you can find this wire? I don’t want to rip apart a perfectly good harness too much. I am just looking for an aproxímate location so I can more easily find this wire.

Please advise.

Thanks, t.poe

Follow the coils from the coil toward the ECU.

You will quickly find a connector. The purple wire goes in to the connector from the ECU side. But it splits inside the connector. That's the wire you're looking for.

I added this to my car with SW gauges. The tach reads half speed. It doesn't really bother me. One of these days I'll get around to installing a programmable tach.

Thank you. That will simplify the hunt. Always good advice on the forum.
