This forum is really helping me, as I am nearing first start on a 351W/427 with an all Holley Sniper system, meaning:
Holley In-tank "returnless" pump
Hyperspark distributer, Ignition Box and coil
550-511 Sniper Throttle body unit
Also, per Holley I have sniper-dedicated pos/neg runs to the battery posts--separate from main cabling
And, per common sense and wisdom gained from reading about EMI issues I have:
-mounted the coil and CD box away from the ECU and distributor
-all associated wiring is either routed away from spark plug wires, distributor, alternator wiring, and am paying attention to ensuring 90 deg crossing of other wires.
So am I good? Aside from the EFI problems that make it to the forum many of you out there, many of you have no or few problems and so do I need to go the extra mile to shield the distributor, upgrade the MSD-5540 "Street Fire" plug wires (500 ohms per foot of resistance, helically wound conductor that suppresses EMI)?
Finally--and perhaps important--I didn't realize that Holley recommends not tying in the hyper spark distributor for first start, adding it in later. Why? Do I really need to source an old-school distributor (with a steel gear) initially?
Thanks, Brian
