After a long road that included numerous issues and two hurricanes, NASA finally launched Artemis 1 today!

IMHO this didn't' get nearly enough press...

Yep -- The attention span of the American public is about two minutes. When we didn't launch the last time with all the press, that killed interest. If there had been a failure, that's all you'd hear and see in the media, but since it was nominal, it's background noise.

this guys excitement is pretty awesome - gave me chills listening to him during the launch, you can see his silhouette from the light from the blast during takeoff... great time to be alive!

I wish I could have been there to see, hear, and feel the launch. My daughter's father-in-law was on console in the control room! He's a director on the Orion capsule program.

I think giving the American public a 2 minute attention span is being overly generous.

It is all over the news here. But the issue really was the launch time. 1:47am where I live. Not exactly prime news viewing time. I was going to stay up but ended up having a conference call scheduled at 7am and couldn't justify it.

A look inside Orion as it is headed to the moon. Notice the Callisto Tech Demo unit in the center of the shot. This is a technology demo created by Lockheed Martin using commercial technology from Amazon Alexa and Cisco Webex.

Pending full inspection of the heatshield, looks like we may be heading back to the moon!

I don't work on Orion, but I'm proud to say I work for the company that builds the Orion capsules. How many people can get a picture of a space capsule from their office window?

Been a great year for NASA. Too bad most people have no idea what all they have accomplished this year. They really need to step up their marketing efforts.

Here is a pretty good summary of what was going on at NASA in 2022 (https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-big-2022-historic-moon-mission-webb-telescope-images-more).

I lived on the Space Coast for 24 years and worked for NASA for 15 years. Just moved away last year. I miss seeing all of the launches and especially this one. The sight of it one thing, but the sound is absolutely amazing. A great mission success for NASA with the recovery of the Orion capsule a few days ago.

Not to hijkack this thread, but it is NASA/JPL related. If you have not seen the Amazon Prime movie "Goodnight Oppy", and are a bit of a space nut, like me, then you have to catch this movie about the rovers Spirit and Opportunity.
