Hi Holley Sniper Users.

I am looking at the sniper or the Terminator X Stealth. The Terminator removes the computer from the TB and adds a few hundred more $$. They vary a little bit. but very similar.

My question is on the ignition system. I can use a hyperspark or duel sync. The duel sync I can use with a TB or down the with MPFI. The hyperspark is just TB. Either one can use a coil driver module + coil + distributor and it works. Or they can use a CD Box + coil + distributor and it works.

What does the CD box give you over a coil driver? Any advantanges? Cons? Other than expense?

Appreciate the feedback. Thx. Tom

I'm not running a Sniper or Terminator but I did do quite a bit of research into my ignition system. I'm running a FAST XFI Sportsman ECU with timing control. My ignition system consists of:

Holley 565-201 Dual Sync Distributor (https://www.holley.com/products/ignition/distributors/holley_efi_dual_sync/parts/565-201).

Holley 6415 Ignition Control Box (https://www.holley.com/products/ignition/ignition_boxes/street/parts/6415).

MSD 82073 Coil (https://www.holley.com/products/ignition/ignition_coils/street_and_strip/street_and_strip_coils/parts/82073).

Ford Performance Plug Wires (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-12259-m302).

NGK BKR6E Spark Plugs (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ngk-bkr6e).

Hope this helps.

I am running a Sniper system with a Hyperspark distributor using the supplied coil driver. The system works well “now”.
The ECU mounted on the throttle body did cause me headaches initially. RF interference from the distributor (just a few inches in front of the ECU) was causing the computer to shutdown and reboot. Shielding the distributor fixed that. Seems more common with the Hyperspark than with the Dual Sync.
Was going to use the Holley CD ignition box but, bad reviews and reports of failures on other forums convinced me to try the coil driver first. Coil and coil driver also need to be located as far as possible from the ECU. Coil driver is on the driver’s side footbox top and the coil is on the left F panel.
System works very well now but, it is not as plug and play as Holley likes to advertise.

Sniper EFI, Hyperspark distributor, CD box and coil. Paid attention to clean wiring, direct connection to battery and solid engine grounding. All as called for in the manual. No problems so far (go kart stage). We did have some problems with ignition breaking up around 4500 rpm during our dyno pulls, but that was with the usual rats nest of wires dangling above the engine. Borrowed an MSD box after getting Holley on the phone and got clean pulls after that. Using the Hyperspark box in my cleaner setup in the car has been fine so far.

I had a local builder build my engine, and he recommended breaking it in with a standard Holley carb and conventional distributor first. I’m glad we did that, ensuring a solid breakin and good pulls to 6k rpm before installing the Sniper and making sure it all worked. If you’re getting a crate engine that has been wrung out first, you don’t need to worry about that.

I used the Sniper/Duel Sync/CD Box. My engine was also dyno'd/broken in with a carb and vacuum distributor. At the time I was putting mine together the hyperspark did not have a steel gear. I needed one as I had an upgraded cam. My options were purchase a gear and have a machine shop swap it or use the Duel Sync. I went with the latter. It came with an adaptor cable and you bypass the second sensor in the SW.
