Hi all, I just dropped the BP 347/TKX engine/trans package into my Mk4 IRS car today and the driveshaft is almost 2" too long. The shaft PN seems correct for an IRS car. Engine accessory sits mid way across the frame cross member so the orientation seems correct. The end of trans is beyond mid way rearward of the rear cross member. Also the offset mount bracket for the trans support isn't required. Has anyone had a similar issue? Has anyone needed to shorten the wee little drive shaft?
Any insight appreciated.
I've read of cases where the shipping plug is not removed from the transmission by the builder. If this is the case, you won't be able to slide the driveshaft all the way in due to the plug. Are you sure there's no shipping plug shoved in there?

Looking at the second picture taken from the top of the tunnel it looks like the shaft is all the way into the transmission.

Take it to a local drive shaft shop. When I converted to IRS I had to have mine shortened. I called and asked them how they wanted me to measure for length. I did that and dropped the shaft off. What I found was that while shafts, u-joints, flanges etc are a bit hard to figure out what fits what for me, for those guys it is simple since they do it all day long.

that was our conclusion, just seems like such a small shaft that making it smaller worried me. Good news is that its IRS so very minor range of motion. thanks for responding.

The length between the output shaft and adapter flange on the IRS is just 8.75" and the shaft is closer to 10.25 so will need to take at least 2" out of the shaft. Can anyone advise what the space is on their build.
thx

Call Factory Five, it looks like you got the wrong driveshaft. They will fix it.

it appears that they have a 8.375" shaft but I already dropped mine off at a machine shop. Much easier than dealing with border issues and lag. Thanks, Earl
