View Full Version : Another Electrical Question

I am almost done with my electrical wiring which has been by far the most challenging part of my almost completed build so far. I'm working on a Mark IV with Gen 3 Coyote. All wiring either came with the kit or the engine so it's standard stuff. Everything works so far (lights, flashers, brakes, heated seats, reverse light, wipers, starter, etc) with the exception of the turn signals. I have tracked it down to the fuse panel. I followed the instructions for the Coyote and cut the orange wire (page 99) and soldered it to the fuel pump wire in the EFI harness. Now there is no power going to the fuses that were connected to that circuit. Not a problem for the choke wire because I don't need it but it is a problem for the turn signal. Unless I missed something, this does not appear to be addressed in the directions. I understand this is probably a very easy fix but since electrical is not my strong suit and messing around in the fuse panel is intimidating, I thought that asking the experts would be a good idea. One thought was doing a jumper from the flashers power wire to the turn signal?
I appreciate any direction anyone can provide.
Thank you,
Tony

Can you take a picture of the cut and connection you made for the fuel pump? I suspect you cut the wrong wire.

I don't have my car here right now to confirm, but I spent some time going over the harness diagrams and pictures in the instructions. If I read the diagram correctly, there is also an orange wire that brings power to the ignition circuits (labeled ORG-IGN FEED in the harness instructions). This wire connects to the buss bar and brings power to the ignition circuits. If you cut this feed wire, all the ignition circuits will have no power as you describe.

It is easy to cut the wrong wire because there is more than one orange wire. You have to make sure you cut the jumper that goes from the ignition buss bar to the fuel pump fuse and not the feed wire.

Sending a picture of the wires on your fuse panel will really help.

Take a look at the last post from Frank at i.e.427. He had a similar issue with the trailer light adapter used in the kit.

I think you can see it in this picture. I believe it was the one the instructions said to cut. I appreciate your help.

I think my problem is a little different. I have no power at the bus bar in the fuse panel where I cut the jumper that gets connected to fuel pump wire from the EFI harness. If I use a jumper wire from the flashers power wire, my blinkers work fine but if I use the grey wire that connects to the same bus bar that the cut orange wire connects to then I get nothing. Thanks for trying to help!

Problem solved. The reality is there was never really a problem at all. I can not and will not disclose my boneheaded error. Thank you to those who replied. Time to start drinking.....

I'm glad you figured it out! But now you raised my curiosity!!!

All of us have definitely had bonehead errors during our builds...

OK I'm two drinks deep at this point so I will admit it. That circuit doesn't work when the key is in the accessory position, only when in the on position. I forgot I had the key turned to accessory.

I'm glad you figured it out. Better yet, the wiring was done perfectly!

Trying to verify my wiring for first start we couldn't figure out why the fuel pump wouldn't prime no matter what we tried. Wiring all checked out. Finally figured out that everything works better when you turn on the main cutoff switch!! :p

I'm chalking it up to having put in many hours over the past couple days on the electrical. I think I was fried.....pardon the pun. And it all goes back to sometimes the solution to the problem is the overlooked easy one.

glad you figured this out!
FYI, to avoid future frustrations, the FFR manual has the orientation of the clutch switch wires reversed in their pics.
you're welcome in advance ;)
