Usually I'd just cruise through build threads and start to develop a picture of next steps with the build, but I'm short on time. I've got 1 more day of beautiful fall weather here in MN, and I want to get cutouts on the body done (wish I had had FFR do those but it's what I have) and first coat of bedliner applied by the end of tomorrow. So I figured I'd lay out my plan and have folks chime in with anything missing, or suggestions for best practice.
Tools on hand: jigsaw, pneumatic angle grinder with sanding drum attachments, dremel, air recip saw with fine toothed blade, hole saws, orbital sander.
Protective gear: tyvek suit (?), gloves, face shield, mask.
Cutouts:
I have cutouts marked with sharpie by FFR.
Can I use those as a guide and just cut inside the lines?
Trim:
inside lip on fenders.
1/4" off front cockpit roundover, to avoid dash.
Figured I'd use hole saws for all corners + round holes, and cutoff tool in the dremel for straight lines. Recip saw for fenders and dash roundover. Missing any essentials?
Prep:
Rough up underside where smooth with 40- 60 grit.
Wash off all residue after sanding ... seems like bedliner isn't that fussy about prep.
Let bake in sun a bit to dry.
Mask off inside 1" (?) for fenders and engine bay vents. Anything else need to be masked on the inside?
Mask around all other cutouts to avoid bedliner on edge or outside.
Application:
1 coat on entire body, 2 in fender area. Figured 3" chip brushes work as well as any. I'll avoid the undercoater / bedliner debate here. Will probably use Duplicolor.
Am I missing anything basic?
