Hi all just wrapping up my build and installed the rear hatch. Are the struts actually supposed to hold up the glass? The nose struts work very well but the rear struts are lame. Hatch will fall with enough force to break the glass I fear. Any recommendations or cure. Is there a worthy replacement that will support the glass? Thanks in advance

Mind hold up the hatch very firmly. Once they go over center they lift the glass the rest of the way by themselves. Not the best, but this video shows them lifting the glass and staying up. https://youtu.be/w2pLNjTEJOM?t=172

Something isn't right with yours. Mine came with Suspa C16-06874 gas shocks. Extended: 17.1”, compressed: 10.8”, rated 40#. Check to see if that's what you have. In case they're defective, stock items on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/C16-06874-C1606874-Quantity-Tonneau-Supports/dp/B007MUY5PM

Edit: Assuming the struts are the right ones and functional, I agree placement is very important. I too exactly followed the manual instructions for placement. The location on the glass is fixed (obviously). But the body location for the other end needs to be exactly right.

I used the factory five provided struts and they hold the glass up ok. I found that the placement is critical and even . 75 inch off makes a difference. I located mine exactly per the instructions provided.

x3 on the struts working fine. Mine are also like edwardb. very strong and really takes 2 people to hook them up. one to hold the glass up and the second to clip in both struts. Either you got the wrong part number or the struts went bad. One of my nose struts went bad last year (one year into the build) and had to order 2 new ones. Doug

Thanks for your input. The struts are the ones supplied by FFR and I did install them exactly to the installation directions. It seems that the one I installed on the passenger side was much easier to compress than the drivers side but I will look into replacements unless you think FFR will replace them?
