I wish I could log in here during lunch at work, but the site is blocked; reason sited was, Websense: Potential security threat. How does a website overcome that?

After researching what other web sites have done when dealing with a problem like this, I emailed WEB Sense asking them to review the site and remove us from the "black list"

I will keep you updated on their response

I believe the Websense can be tweaked by the licensee. We use it here (and even on our smart phones) and I have no trouble logging in and viewing/posting. So it is most likely your IT department. Good luck giving them a reason why you need to be on this site at work!

I know a previous employer used a Wedmarshall that recognized key words and kept employees from accessing any sites that had words like "Sports", "Forum" and obviously profane language in the name or content. An employee would have to contact the IT Dept. to get certain sites okayed.

I work for the govt and they have unblocked several sites for me to use during lunch. They unblock sites we need for research and planning also. Our last security "update" killed several key sites for our climatology data. It didn't block a bunch of inappropriate sites, just stuff we actually used. It must have been a security package for the IRS????

While we can utilize govt computers for limited personal use, you have to know it's closely monitored. I check email, hit about 5 boards looking for PMs, and access a few news sites. So far no issues for me. I know other people at my location have received reprimands for inappropriate use.

I received a reply from WebSense and it looks like the issue will be cleared up in the next day or two:

Thank you for writing to Websense.

The site you submitted is a virtually hosted site that was not in our database. However, it shares an IP address with another site in our database which caused an unintended overblock. The site has been reviewed and categorized accordingly:

http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/ - Vehicles

Categorization updates should be available in the next scheduled publication of the database. A new database is published every business day, five days a week, Pacific Standard Time.

Thank you for your assistance,

So as long as your employer is not blocking web sites in the "vehicles" category you should be good to go
