Now that I am on the road,,,I as wondering what others found as a suitable jack to keep in the trunk of their MK4? Any ideas and/or links would be helpful.
Obviously with the low profile stance (approx 4 inch),,,, with a flat tire getting a jack under the car would become even more problematic. Thanks in advance for your input.

AAA :-)

I don't have room for a spare tire in the trunk anyway... So having a jack to jack up the car to replace a flat is pointless. The lead time on R888Rs is so long anyway... Minus well just get it flatbeded home. If I were semi close to home I could call my wife and tell her to grab one of my rims with my racing tires and my low profile jack and bring them to me in the SUV. Would rather save her the trouble tho and just call AAA and swap in my own garage rather then on the roadside.

I bought this and it fits nicely in the drop trunk area. Don't forget a tire repair kit and air compressor. If a tire ever gets repaired with plugs, it is only to get you home or to a tire shop for a replacement.

What’s the point of a jack without a spare tire? Asking for a friend:p

Putting a plug in a tire and re-inflating it is far easier with the wheel jacked up.

This is true. But... I will confess that I got a nail in a tire on my DD a few years ago and plugged it as a "temporary" solution. I got lazy and just kept driving it - for 10k miles until the tire wore out and got replaced. Plugs, when done properly, are a pretty secure repair. The caveat here is that I had TPMS on that car, so a slow loss of air pressure would be evident. Not sure I'd do the same on a car without TPMS.

Many on this site have recommended having tire repair kit (i.e."Fix-A-Flat and/or plugs). Just figured it was more appropriate to have the tire off the ground.

That's pretty nice, Terry, but as usual, I have you beat. Five bucks and a fun day with my son at the junkyard:

Super light and very small. It will get the car off the ground.

I have a similar kit I even have the same bag :-) . Also included are some bungee cords. fist full of assorted zip ties, tow strap and jumper cables. As well as the ever faithful vicegrips! I just don't carry a jack. If it comes to that it's more then I want to deal with roadside.

I should carry a tow strap. It would help to tow those other sports cars out of trouble. Just not sure where to attach it to my roadster...:p

A point I'd like to make on the statement "just call roadside service" That's a great option and Hagerty helped me when I broke my clutch cable. However, how many times have we been on a group drive and had a member break down and then everyone gathers round trying to be the first to diagnose and fix the problem right then and there? I'd even be willing to fix my brake cable on a long drive out in the mountains. I carry a spare cable, my jack and yes, I would find a suitable means to safely support the car while under it, such as a rock or such. But that's just the Boy Scout in me I guess.

BTW, if you're going breakdown travel with Terry, he carries everything!

Not a problem on a Challenge car. Permanent frame attached Tow spots front and back. :-)

Roadside assistance is hard to contact in the middle of Death Valley, Nevada, or Utah with no cell service. Motorcycles do not have a spare either. But I always had the ability to plug a tire, air it up, and get back on the road. From experience of many years of off roading and riding motorcycles, I'd rather be prepared. I'm not asking for a friend. I have used my tools, plugs, lights, spare fluids, etc, mostly for friends and others that I ran into broken down on the trail.

A plug kit will not fix every flat tire problem. But it will get you home or to civilization often. Getting the tire off of the ground (even if still on the car) makes plugging much easier.

This is exactly what I did!!! He even had a trailer to pick me up if needed...

I know someone that carries a carb and low pressure fuel pump so when his EFI strands him, he can continue. He has used it twice. He does some really long trips.

I carry a tire plug kit and a AAA card. Been stranded once in my life, when my clutch slave cylinder blew out.

The problem with most jacks is that they are over 4" when fully down. Add a flat tire into the equation and you are going to be 3" or less.

I keep a tire plug kit and small air compressor along with this tiny jack.
Just know that the jack is pretty pricey, but it does works well.

I don't have a spare, but might get one to keep at home in case I need to call the cavalry.
