In all my years I have never messed with Koni, so before I start hammering on them, I thought I would ask others if they have had troubles getting the snap ring to seat on the hat. I have attached a picture which shows how the snap rings ears hit the hat long before they can engage in the slot. The width of the snap ring, at 180 degrees is also hitting the hat long before it reaches the slot.

Now, I can put it in a vise and may be able to tap it in with a punch and hammer, but that just feels wrong. Thoughts?

I have to be doing something wrong here. There is no way that snap ring is going to sit square in the groove. What am I missing? It has to be me. I cannot believe Koni would make that kind of error.

That is what it is. I used a hammer, a flat screw driver and GENTLE persuasion to get them to seat. Be careful that you don't bend the edge of the hat down or it will never seat. You have to force the snap ring down to match the slope so that it tucks into the slot. On a side note I remember reading a post where the poster contacted Koni about this very issue and he was told by Koni that with the FF cars you do not even need the snap ring because the way these car sit the springs hold the hat in place anyway. That snap ring is just to hold the hat in place on full extension so the spring doesn't jamb the hat on the rebound. I also used two tie straps to attach the spring to the hat just to ensure that. BTW I was able to get those rings to seat. Wasn't easy but they will work.

It doesn't sit square. It follows the slope and just tucks under the edge of the hat groove.

One final note. Do not line up the opening in the hat with the opening in the snap ring. Offset them.

Thanks Namrups. I am really surprised Koni let this out the door. I am tempted to machine the flat in the top so the snap ring will sit correctly. Angled like that reduces the retention of the snap ring, significantly.

I tapped one in using a small center punch and hammer. I do not like how it sits.
