View Full Version : Is some of this forum layout irritating, or...

...is it just me?

For example, the front-page column called "Recent Forum Posts", which has the headline underneath the comment: first you see the comment, sort of out-of-context, and then you see the headline, and then you have to go back up to piece it together.
The "other" forum was consistent in the layout, with headline on top and then the comment, and that seemed to read a lot easier.

I still don't like having to use the back button and the way you need to get from one forum to the next. Having all the stuff layed out on the right side like the other forum is so much easier to navigate. That and having the go button to get back to the front page of the section you were in before reading a thread in that same section.

Go button, go button, GO!

It's gonna take some getting used to.

Who moved my cheese?

Thanks,

I am not finding it as user friendly as what most of us are accustomed to at the "other" forum, and I do not think it can all be attributed to familiarity. I understand that both forums are running on the same software although different versions. I'm old, cranky, mostly computer illiterate and don't embrace change so the more it looks and acts like what I'm used to the happier I'll be! ;)

We read every post, especially those suggesting ways to make the forum better. Keep the comments and suggestions coming, because we are still learning the software and still figuring out what you guys want.

Remember back when you got a "new" girlfriend. Different? yes. Irritating? just wait. Think of it like that.

I still don't like having to use the back button and the way you need to get from one forum to the next.

I click on the forum above the "reply to thread" above and to the left (scroll all the way up) and it saves time and clicks.

It's like a new pair of underwear. At first it's constrictive, but after a while it becomes a part of you. :o

Yep same here, as I'm betting many of us are. FFR forums are the only forums I've ver been active in. So this will take a while. It is great to see so many familiar avatars. Misery is eased in the company of friends. :)

Magnus,

I totally agree. We had an excellent moderator meeting this afternoon via teleconf and I didnt get a chance to bring this up. I like the longer front page quick-look at new posts (called whats new" here. The front page is cool but needs some changes and is unfinished. The Blog section in the middle needs to change

Depending on what software you're using you can right click on any link and select "Open in New Tab". I normally go to the "Forums" page and then right click and select "Open in New Tab" for the different forums I want to look at and then go to those tabs and select the posts I want to read and do the same. I can then click on each tab and read/respond to the post and then simply close the tab and go to the next one. Did the same thing on the other forum so I guess nothing seemed different to me. If you have a couple of forums you normally visit you can set them up as favorites and just select them from you Fovorites list and then do the "Open in New Tab" thing from there.

The "Recent Posts" list on the main page and for each forum also seems to sort by posts instead of threads so if there were five responses to one post they all show up instead of just showing that there was a recent post to the thread.

Cheers, Rod

I noted this in another post, the avatars seem out of focus, and I dont like the black script on a bright white background. After just 15 or 20 minutes the eye strain is noticeable. Maybe just a change in font style and size?

I like on the other place where you put your mouse over the title like forum and it give you a list without having to click on forum then pick the next place you want to go.

Also maybe limit signature to a few lines. Seems like it could get very long posts if everyone had 20+ lines of info on themselves in every post.

Not enough smiles, and they are way too small. Avatar's are too small as well.

I think that can ALL be changed in "SETTINGS"
