I have a damaged LCA ball joint slotted nut. My son tried to thread it onto a bolt that was a diffferent pitch. Napa was stumped, and a local fastener supplier that napa sent me too also failed. I thought it would be easy to find, mustangs are everywhere. What is the size (and or p/n), and where should I be able to find it? thanks!

5/8-18 castle nut. Should be available at any well stocked hardware or parts store.

I have an extra set of lower ball joint nuts and I just measured the thread per inch. I believe they are 5/8-18 castle nuts. Mine is a 33 Hot Rod but I think they are the same.

If you can't find the slotted nut just get two standard nuts and use one for a jam nut to lock the first nut in position.

If you can't find the specific one for the mustang (https://www.cjponyparts.com/ball-joint-castle-nut-zinc-coated-with-stainless-cotter-pin-pair-mustang-1979-1993/p/HW4639/?year=1983&gclid=Cj0KCQjw1vSZBhDuARIsAKZlijQ8iL08njDMj9fP4P09-azhu7cwrixQseCR2YSNNuOAcPK_l6p1EEUaAnJdEALw_wcB) locally Dorman makes an assortment (13559 or 13560) both have 5/8-18 you need, any parts store should have.

You can also get them at McMaster, although it certainly won't be the most economical as they will charge shipping and also sell them in a quantity of 10. However, if you happen to be putting a McMaster cart together otherwise, maybe an option:
