Gen differences and part availa8

Is there an archive that explains the Gen differences . Are parts available for all Gens? I am looking at some abandoned projects.

Factory Five's own website might be the best source. This lists the differences, including the statement "...not a single piece of steel chassis, aluminum panel, or composite body that is shared with the previous gen 1 and gen 2 car! This is effectively an all-new Factory Five design." https://www.factoryfive.com/type-65-coupe/all-new-gen-3-coupe/. I have no way to comment whether Factory Five has individual parts for the previous versions available. But I'd be very cautious assuming they might be.

Having said that, there are some things that are the same or similar. The Gen 3 Coupe has the same suspension as the current Roadster. Previous gens were similar, although I'm not aware the current newer 2015+ Mustang based IRS was available on the previous gen Coupes. Gas tank the same. Steering rack and column the same (manual or power). Ron Francis harness the same. Not sure about the radiator. Windshield (1986 Jaguar XJS) the same. One caution though is the rear hatch glass. The Gen 3 is new and not compatible. I recall hearing that Factory Five had some of the previous generation in stock. But when they're gone they're gone. But I'd be very cautious about that.

Don't know how much that helps. We love our Gen 3 Coupe. Build thread in my sig line below. We're in our third driving season and over 5,000 miles. I don't have personal experience with the previous versions. But have been around enough of them to observe and the Gen 3 is a significant improvement. I recommend trying to find one over the previous. But then you'd expect me to say that. :p

To add to Paul's comments, you can look at Factory Five's parts website to see what they have available for the Gen 1 and 2 coupes. https://www.factoryfiveparts.com/

The overwhelming majority of parts are not specific to a Type 65 Coupe and could be sourced from another company, or fabricated without too much trouble. But the hatch glass, headlight covers and side window scoops are probably unobtainable if not purchased from Factory Five. I imagine you could finesse the Gen 3 headlight covers and side window scoops to fit the earlier generation. I would only consider a Gen 1 or 2 if the price was too cheap to pass up.
