Looks like the forecasted path has shifted a bit back to the East with Tampa in its sights. Further south here in Punta Gorda I’m hoping for just some heavy rain and wind. To all our friends from Sarasota north into southern GA, stay safe as best you can!

Hey brother, stay safe and keep me posted. Building in north west Cape Coral right now, a little south of you.

East coast here, under a tropical storm warning. Could change if it keeps moving east.
Stay safe!
Mark,
My garage in Illinois is cobra-friendly. I know you are accustomed to long trips - why not hop in your car and get the heck out of dodge? ;)

The arrow points to my home.
There are many folks that are worse off than us.
Especially in the village.
Thanks for the well wishes. Much appreciated!

Your not far from the new place we were building. It's just south of Burnt Store Marina. Expecting that we will probably be starting to build again after all the footage I have been watching!! Hang tough!

I hope Mark is ok. I am a little south of Mark and Henry so I did not get the strongest winds but water was incredible, even were I was well south of eye. I got water up into my Garage about 3 inches. Does not sound like much except my garage is over 9 feet above sea level. I was a direct hit from Irma and this was worse even though I was not near eye. I can not imagine what Henry and Mark went through today. I have communicated with Henry so I know he is safe but have not heard anything from Mark. please keep all those in SWFL on your mind, this storm will change many lives after today.

Holy crap man I don't know you but it looks like you took a pretty direct hit when it turned.
Hope you're hanging in there!

Hoping everyone down there is still ok after the hit. I grew up in St. Pete (just outside Tampa for non-Floridians) and have some family still there. They're relieved it hit away from them but that means others had to take the hit. Especially hoping you fared well Mark.

Sorry I did not update earlier but cell/internet has been horrible at best. I have had contact with Mark and he said he was ok. Just some lanai cage damage. He was lucky to say the least. I am sure he will update all once he can with internet access and a free moment.
Cheers

Mark came out of this with little damage.
Henry has a good amount of damage, as of yet unknown, spotty cell service, but is still safe, alive, and kicking.

Hard to see but this is in my garage at the height of the surge. Those leaves and particles are floating in 3 inches of water. I can not tell you the stress levels as I watched the water coming in and getting higher, as well as the excitement and relief when it began to go out. I screamed for joy when i noticed it going down. I had not done any special precautions with it because this was not expected at all. When they show the worst case numbers about these storms we all say that can’t happen. I can now say yes it can happen. Happy those I know are safe, but many are not.

Glad you’re all ok, property can be repaired or replaced. Human lives can not. As a fellow Floridian, we feel for you. We were expecting Ian up here in Tampa and Ian had other ideas. The size, growth and path of the storm changed so fast, many in your area did not have time to leave. I just hope the human toll isn’t as bad as some of the estimates I’ve heard. We have first responders on the way to help, unfortunately too late for too many. For those who can, please donate to Red Cross to help the many in need.
Respectfully,
Jeremie

All,
First, I want to thank you all for the concern and well wishes. When I started this thread, the target was Tampa and as others have said, Ian had other ideas. My wife Irene and I rode it out and I stayed in contact with Henry as long as Communications held up. At one point, no one had heard from Henry in at least a day and his cell phone was going direct to voicemail. Talking with Sten, I decided to do a welfare check. Henry is about 30 minutes west of me and let’s just say it was an adventurous trip to his place. Fortunately I found him there safe and secure but without power, cell service or water.
Henry and I still do not have power and it wasn’t until late tonight that I was able to get to the Internet using my cell service. I was able to text but only sometimes and even that was messed up. I was loaned a small generator (By who else, but Henry) to run lights fans and my refrigerator and it would have powered my DTV service, however my dish sustained damage as well. Compared to the devastation I am hearing about within a few miles of me, I am very fortunate with no complaints. I have some damage to my pool cage which will need repair and re-screening, A few roof shingles, mailbox down, the lantern style lights affixed to the front of the house dangling from their wires and bushes and trees stripped of their foliage and two very tall palms in the backyard about to come down and will need to be taken down. All just stuff. Our front doors were shaking hard enough that they would have come in had we not moved heavy furniture in front of the doors. I stepped into the garage and while we have hurricane rated garage doors they were banging and buckling within their tracks. My next real concern is that I need to work and I can’t without Internet. Originally I was going to go to North Carolina to stay with my stepdaughter but now that it appears cell service is good enough to get to the Internet, I’ll use a MiFi to get to the Internet and VPN and I am good.
Mike Reynolds lives off of burnt store Road and is building a Mk4. He is doing OK as well and being he is at the marina water is always a concern there.
Higgybulin, I am very familiar with burnt store Road. My parents had a winter place on that road near the pirate canoe and burnt store marinas.
I just heard back I75 at exit 191 is closed both directions because the Myakka river has risen high enough to make passage through that area unsafe.
Once again, thank you all and this is one I hope not to have to go through again anytime soon.

Glad ya made it. I did see our place on the satellite link I listed below. It was updated last night and our place was visible, all looks good!

I'm glad that you, Henry, and others are physically OK and that everything else is relatively OK. My guess is you won't see normal electrical service for a while. Hang in there!

Glad you made it through this with little damage, the items you described were almost exactly what we encountered at our home in Englewood. I trailered my mk2 down last week and spent a couple of days dealing with downed trees and other stuff, from what i saw its going to take awhile to get back to a sense of normalcy down there, still waiting on internet. Looking forward to car shows down there this Jan to March, cruisin on Dearborn first Sat of each month for one.

bscott58, let me know once you’re down for the season. I haven’t taken my car to Englewood but hear it’s nice over there.
I just got back from the Lake Mirror Classic car show in Lakeland with the Deep South Cobra Club. What a great show. For anyone who hasn’t gone, it’s one of the best.
