I’ve built two MK4 Roadsters. How does the truck build compare in difficulty?

I've done several Roadsters, a Coupe, and now the truck which is nearly complete. My response would be the following: Chassis portion different in some cases but no harder than any. The front suspension is very different but straightforward to assemble. The rear suspension is 3-link (only option for the truck) and isn't hard. Uses the same Mustang tank. Lots of room behind the dash to do most anything you want. Most will do heat/A-C (I did) so that's an add. But not particularly difficult. Factory prepped for electric power steering if you want.

The challenge with the truck compared to the Roadster will be the body. Partly depends on how you configure it. Optional fenders, running boards, engine side covers, hood, all add complexity and I've found time consuming for an acceptable fit. Doable, but takes patience. Of course a body shop could do, but be prepared to pay. The basic body and bed is obviously required in all cases. The main challenge there is the doors. Historically, they haven't fit very well and again takes time (and patience) to get hinged, adjusted, and fitting reasonably well. Watching Erik's build of the new extended cap version, seems his doors fit well from the start. Maybe as part of the body update they cleaned that up. The doors have an internal steel frame that you have to install (a little like the Coupe) and the standard power windows take a little extra work. But I found the instructions in the manual to be adequate. Front and rear glass is glued in, compared to the bolted on windshield on the Roadster, but it's mostly flat and fits well.

Of course if you order one now you'll get the new longer cab which addresses the main shortcoming of the truck, e.g. it's very limited legroom. Still will have limited width in the footboxes, which is one of the reasons I went with an automatic to eliminate the clutch pedal and have room for my left foot.

Hope that helps. It's a cool project. My build thread is linked in my sig line below for many more details and pictures. Lots of other build threads as well.

Tried to order an extended cab this morning. FFR is Not producing an extended cab at this time and they are not taking any orders for them. A prototype has been mfg, but that’s all.

That's strange... I put my order in on July 25th for an Apr 2023 delivery of the '35 extended cab truck??? Maybe they are so backordered they stopped for awhile?

Good luck, Mark

It’s my understanding that once the supply of the original is depleted the longer cab will become the standard/only version.

As of today, ffr says the extended cab truck is not in production and don't know when it will be. They are looking at May 23 and it may be pushed back further. Additionally, the pricing has not been set because the truck is not in production yet. That's the latest directly from ffr. Don
