Hello All.

I'll attach 2 pics to this email. Can anyone tell me if my passenger window frame is for a Gen2 or a Gen3? I seem to have one of each and the instructions are very sparse and its hard to tell from looking.

Also, does the glass insert appear to be Gen3 ?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Look exactly like the windows I ordered and installed on my Gen 3 Coupe. Relatively straightforward to install. But took some experimentation and slight deviation from the instructions in my experience to install the plexi inserts into the frame. My experience and suggestions here: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?26630-Edwardb%92s-Gen-3-Type-65-Coyote-Coupe-59-Build-Complete-and-Graduated&p=362057&viewfull=1#post362057.

Gen3. Gen1&2 are totally different.

Guys, thanks for the replies. The question I have is regarding the frame itself. The metalwork that runs along the top of the door is thicker on the passenger window frame compared to the driver frame. I was wondering which one is correct ?

Welcome to the world of asymmetrical bodies. Check the fit into the opening in the body on each side. You should find they fit OK. Mine did.

Perhaps I'm not explaining myself clearly. I'm questioning the black window frames only. My pics show that the opening in the passenger window frame is different to the opening on the driver window frame. Although the body is not symmetrical i would expect those window frames to be the same ?? Is that a bad assumption ? Are they supposed to be different ? The piece of masking tape on the passenger frame is on a metal strip that is wider than that same strip on my driver frame.

Not sure how I've never noticed that (3+ years later...) but just looked and measured mine. They're the same way. Width at the top is the same. Window opening the same. Bottom width that much different side-to-side. And if you look at the pictures in the link I posted above, you can see mine had the same difference. Again, never noticed it... Same answer: Yes, it's apparently that asymmetrical. Don't know if it's the door openings or the doors themselves. But they work.

Thanks for measuring Paul! Perhaps that's just the way it is. I'll move on :)

As I've said many times before (whether dealing with a Roadster or Coupe)---think of it as a left half car and a right half car rather than as a whole. Adopting this mindset goes a long way towards preserving your sanity ;)

We had a similar problem on the 818, tho the windows on the 818 have no frames. Our bodies are off by as much as 1/2” from side to side. I suggest you put your tape back in your toolbox and build what looks correct, regardless of minor discrepancies.

The other thing that was throwing me off and thinking I had Gen2 parts is that the mounting tabs at the bottom are also spaced differently between the driver and passenger sides.
