Last week I ordered my Mk4 kit. A ways out for delivery, June 3rd 2023. I wanted a late May delivery for funding purposes so not sure if that is the normal lead time these days. This gives me time for space prep this winter and garage re-org to be able to work on the kit, the race car and the Miata when needed. Will be using Blueprint carb version 427 and trying to keep the mods to a minimum. Wilwood brakes, IRS, and will go electric power steering with chrome hoops for both sides and bumbers as well with a planned red/white paint job. CF dash and figure the rest out along the way! Like many here, recent retiree, tired of working with Covid and managing headcount so I dropped out of the work force, couple years early at the tender age of 58. With current stock market and spending plans, maybe back pumping gas at Costco before long! Not looking to rush the build, but don't want project that hangs out in the garage for to long with out being able to drive under its own power.

Congratulations! I love the title of this thread by the way. My motto is, "He who spends his last dollar the day he departs this world wins."

Congrats! Yeah, like Papa Dave said!

FYI, if you aren’t already aware Blueprint is currently dealing with a backlog as well, especially on the 427s. If you haven’t already done so you should contact them sooner rather than later.

Cheers,
Jeff

No way man. Get a job driving the courtesy shuttle for the local Ford dealer or parts delivery for your local Napa....think employee discount, LOL.

+1. Things may be picking up now, but I received mine few weeks back, a year and a half after placing the order. (427 EFI Stage 1)

Hope to get my engine order in this week, So hard to look out so far but I really look to get delivery in 2024 so I can spread the build cost over 3 years. 2023 kit, 2024 motor, 2025 body work. I am currently doing a 50/50 paint job on my race car, reminds me I do not want to do the paint/prep on this car, not enough space, tools and technique for large body work projects.

Congrats, and welcome aboard! Nice to see another PNW build on the way.

P.S. Way to go on your recent retirement. I'm jealous. What a great project to tackle now that you'll have more free time.

Engine is on the build list, requested delivery January 2024., that will get me 5-6 months chassis build time so I do not have to store the engine long before use.

I am with you and Papa. We are now both retired and doing fine but a quick discussion of nothing real a month or so ago and I made the same comment to my wife. No plans to spend ourselves broke but also no plans to leave any specific amount.

We senior gentlemen have it figured out. In my case, the wife has joined me in doing our part to ensure the kids have no inheritance to worry about.

Nice subject line, and congratulations and welcome to the fun. I'm at a similar career phase and outlook, though still working. I lack imagination when it comes to spending money; if you're anything like me the car will provide ample opportunity to exercise and refine that particular skill. As for tackling this in retirement ... way to go. Big chunks of time in the garage are something I get very little of, and boy are they satisfying. Good luck with the planning and prep ... and anticipation!

Great subject. Although, I am doing the same, I hope to have my kids do it with me and they will enjoy it as well.

My kit should arrive in May of 23. I have a 427 Fuel Injected version on order from Blueprint. They said about September or so of 23. I hope to have my body work done by J. Miller. Probably go with a motif very similar to BlitzBoy54's look. I am doing it bring the family together. My daughters will help me (mostly cause they like their ma) and I hope to get my friends involved as well. Should be a good time and I'm looking for a relatively unadulterated build experience. Not much in the way of mods for my first build. Should be fun. Maybe we can share stories about how the build is going?
