Hi forum - I'm getting close to a running chassis (!!!), but I've run into an issue with my pedal box. I know this isn't a new issue, but so much has been written about the tightness of the pedal box that I'm getting lost in all the discussions.

So here's my specific issue - my FFR stock accelerator pedal is rubbing against the box wall, even getting stuck on a rivet tail or two. The pedal mounting bracket on the chassis doesn't extend far enough to the left for me to move the pedal over. I only need 1/4" to get away from the aluminum. Below is a pic of my pedal box. Appreciate any suggestions!

Yes, that does look close.

I'll add my thoughts and hope others can chime in.

You'll need a bit more than 1/4" when you go to add insulation/under carpet padding and carpeting.

While making sure the cable is going through the cable sheath straight on maybe you could move the mount of the pedal a bit to the left. Again making sure the cable is running straight through the sheath mounting. When remounting the pedal mount you can skew it off a bit to align the cable into the sheath. Now, from the picture, I notice you may have already moved the lower hole over already and it looks like you are running out of mounting room. Add a larger aluminum plate to the original mounting which would allow you to move the pedal where ever you want.

In regards to the sheathing/cable mounting, I had to move mine several times to get it lined up properly with my Russ Thompson Throttle Pedal set up. I've got a series of holes (all connected) until I found the perfect spot for the mounting. One of those spots no one will ever notice. I filled in the other holes.

Trim the pedal. I've trimmed my brake and clutch pedal (narrower) to help with my wide feet hitting on the wrong pedal.

Some builders have added a bump out at the spot where the pedal is touching.

If you go to bend the pedal arms be careful because I've heard the pivot can be somewhat delicate but that was mentioned early on with the MkIV which began back in 2010.

If you don't have your engine in it looks like the bump out would be a good solution.

First full disclosure: I’m doing a Coyote build so my accelerator is different and I’m not driving yet so no actual functional experience.

With that said,
I shifted the clutch and brake pads another notch to the left from your picture to allow a bit more room at the accelerator. (Yours are mounted in the center holes. I mounted mine in the two right most holes thus shifting the pads left)
For the accelerator peddle itself, suggest clamping it in a vice and putting in a slight bend to give clearance.
Or, could you remount it a a bit of an angle to give clearance.

These are suggestions from observation. I certainly bow to any more experienced ideas.

Your problem is the pedal is backwards. Disassemble it and switch the pedal with the arm. I did the same thing.

Starting at post 61 will give you details on how to correct it. Post 71 has it in the right spot.

At the end of the day it should look like this. You are the other way around

I got the breeze pedal about 2 months ago and replaced the stock one. You can place the breeze one how ever you want and it's 1000x better.

Or go this route, Russ Thompson pedal that is fully adjustable... very well designed.

I think Breeze is selling Russ' pedal as well. I have one, and it's great...but I also use it with a mechanical linkage. I think Blitzboy54 hit the nail on the head here. There are time where I have installed things backwards/upside down...let's not talk about it :)

You can swap sides of the arms on the pivot. In addition to that, I removed/reshaped the top right corner of the pedal with a belt grinder. You’re going to have carpet and any sound/heat lining under that so you need a fair bit of clearance from the wall

The stock Factory Five Accelerator Pedal is really not a good component. I'm not sure if Factory Five has updated the current pedal but there have been many failures in the past and they are also not very adjustable.

I went with the Russ Thompson Pedal but modified it quite a bit to go with my mechanical linkage. The Russ Thompson Pedal is fully adjustable and a very solid component. I also recommend the turn signal setup from Russ. Super clean and very functional.

I have Russ Thompson pedals, they work very good. I also install a Russ Thompson dead pedal

I agree, the Russ Thompson pedal is a big improvement, including that it is fully adjustable. . . and robust. Also, if you give Russ a call, consider ordering his turn signal and dropped trunk.

BlitzBoy I owe you a beer. After undoing my mistake and correcting the pedal assembly, it fit perfectly. Unfortunately, I did have to drill a new hole for the throttle cable, since the top of the accelerator pedal shifted with the fix. I also took the advice of others on this thread and moved both the clutch and brake over to the left. The result is three perfectly placed pedals and plenty of space for my size 11 shoes. I'm seriously considering an upgrade to that Russ Thompson pedal though...so many things to spend so much money on...$$$
