Hello Roadsters, I am gathering parts for a MkIV build and I want to install a push button start device. Can anyone shed light on a such button? Please post pictures.

That's a fairly popular mod. If you do a search on this and the other forum, you'll find a lot of advice and part numbers. Pretty simple mod, really.
If I were doing this again, I'd consider the aftermarket keyless kits. With the key fob in your pocket, you just sit down and push the button. I think that would be cool.
Its really cool I did that mod. Push start and FOB key. You côme with in 3 feet from thé car and thé alarm system turns off then your ready to go!

I've been thinking push button start as well - but am really intrigued by the idea of a keyless 'key-fob' approach.
Which system did you finally select/install and were there others that you looked at and discarded? Link to the "winner"?
Thanks
Lynn
Well the most popular in the US it the "Guard DAWG" it works fine and is reliable (thats what I hear), but cost over 400$ For myself I when a different route, I bought direct from China a unit on alliexpress.com the systeme is an alarm system, a keyless entry and is fairly innexpensive (around 70$ +shipping). The installation of it was OK (this mod is fairly complicated to start with, since in my case I removed completly the key system from the car, so I had to mimick its fonctionnalioty with a few relays. but so far the system works great and did not cost me an harm...
Here are a couple of pics of the product I used

If you want to go "low tech", look at the push button starter switch that was used in early (pre 68) Jaguar XK-E's. It was a Lucas switch and should still be available. I installed a chrome push button in a 1967 MGB I just restored. Just turn the ignition switch and push the button to start the engine.............very simple. The switch came from Ron Francis.

I used a similar system direct from China via alliexpress and helped a few members with the same purchase and/or install of similar systems. The base technology is the same for all of these systems. Your direct from China system may even look identical to you "4x the cost" name brand system (only without the labels).
Expect the instructions to be badly translated, but the install schematics are fine (these systems don't vary much; even the wires are usually the same colors). These systems are no more complicated or difficult to install (sometimes less) than your basic aftermarket alarm with remote start.
You can install the push button system and leave the door triggers unconnected and shock sensor out so that it does not function like an alarm system. This will still give you the "late model" push button start with RFID and still leaves the ignition system disabled. You will also have the late model functionality these systems provide. Like activation of the IGN and/or ACC without starting the vehicle.
If you just want a functioning push button that activates the starter after you turn on the ignition with the key, that addition is an easy install of a relay activated by the push button. However, and it's just my opinion, I don't see the point in installing a push button that functions as a starter activator as this just adds an extra step to starting the vehicle since you still have to insert and turn the key. HTHs.

Great. I like that push button. What system will you go with behind the switch? The RFID system or a relay?
You can wire the switch of your preference to the RFID system. I did just that. I purchased a button from Shane (VRaptor Speed Works) that is an exact match of the kit's switches and wired it in place of the system’s supplied button. The Honda S2000's push button switch is a popular one.

I plan on going with a relay. I want to keep this build as simple as possible. I looked at the Honda S2000 and strongly considered it. Can you post a picture of your start button?

I'm using the IDIDIT keyless push button start. You carry a FOB on your person and within so many feet your setup is activated. You can set it up so just the assy come on or full ready to start by pushing the start button. Easy system to install and great tech support.

Here are some websites and videos. Note that all of the RFID aftermarket systems are extremely similar varying primarily by the look of the RF Fob and accessories. I have a no label system ordered from China via AliExpress so I can only speak to it as far as product feedback. I've had no issue with it and it has worked flawlessly thus far.

The push button start system is wired into the ignition wiring. The system physically and electrically replaces the key and ignition switch. Pushing the start button with the brake depressed (and clutch) electrically carries out the same action as putting the key in the ignition, turning it to the start position and then letting it rest into the ignition/run position. Pressing the start button once without the brake depressed powers the ACC and once more adds the IGN. When the vehicle is running, pressing the start button with the brake depressed shuts the engine off.
The simple push button starter is wired via relay to the starter circuit at the ignition switch. Pushing the starter button turns the starter. To start the vehicle you have to put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the IGN/Run Position so that the system is powered. Now you can turn the starter with the push button and start the engine. From there you use the key as normal.

Using that system in the video, the vehicle needs to be in park to shut down the car....not a good thing if your drive by wire ( or place mats) fails like the toyotas did.
I assume it works like all newer cars do. My challenger will not let you shut it down the start button unless... Its in park OR you are rolling and press on the brakes while holding down the start button.

VD2021 , Do you have a website or address for the AliExpress you mentioned for the keyless start? I'm not interested in door locks just the push button keylesss start. Thanks Nick C

I think that'd be a pretty bad idea - I have biometric (fingerprint) locks in my office ... worst decision ever - half the time they refuse to recognize anybody.

Push button start always leads to start button push.... and that's a good thing. We have a time clock at work that scans your right hand. Great way to share germs with the crew... Some technology isn't always better. Anti theft stuff is a good idea as long as it works.
