Hi forum - I recently dropped in a Blueprint 306 / TKX-600. Everything went smoothly. Then today I realized that one of the transmission mounts (used for securing the engine in the crate) is making contact with the e-brake mount on the chassis, shown here. Or at least it's within a hair's width of it. I can't find anything in the forum on this so I'm assuming it's a bonehead mistake on my part, but I can't figure out to do. Appreciate any suggestions!

I have the TKO and not sure of the difference in casting but it appears that you are sitting to far forward. Which engine mounts do you have?
I haven't seen one of the new TKX transmissions yet, but I don't recall seeing that mounting point/boss on the TKO I installed. Here is the best picture I can find of the passenger side of the TKO-600 before it was installed in the car.

I see no issue with trimming that off if that's an option you are considering. Just stay 1/8" of so from the case if you do as Tremec is known to have porosity issues in some of their castings.

I have the new TKX but I’m using a Coyote so probably not much help.
But, in the spirit of trying to assist, I just installed my engine transmission and I think I’m well aft of your position. I’ll double check Monday morning when I get to the shop.

I installed my Blueprint 347/TKX combo and had the same issue. I ended up cutting that mounting tab back with a hacksaw after I had the engine/trans already installed. My engine mounts/trans mounts/driveshaft all seemed to line up OK so I guess this may be unique to the TKX.

I cut that tab off on my T5 years ago...I don't thin it was as close, but it was a hassle and unneeded for this application. I can't remember how I did it, but even a hacksaw would work just fine.

I am not sure about the new TKX trans but for all the other common trans it is not unusual to need 1/2 to 3/4 inch spacer under the trans mount to raise it to get proper drive shaft angle. Would raising yours help w/ the interference?

Hi forum - I recently dropped in a Blueprint 306 / TKX-600.
I got the TKX mated to a BPE 347. I have the same "18084" hand written characters on my tranny, only in pink marker. :D
I installed my Blueprint 347/TKX combo and had the same issue. I ended up cutting that mounting tab back...
I have 1/4" clearance at that point with no mod needed. Lucky!

Sawzall time!

I'm not very familiar with the TKX, but by the looks of that tab I'd agree it could probably be trimmed back a bit if needed. However, as CraigS pointed out I'd get your pinion angle set before drawing too many conclusions about what is and insn't interfering.

The tabs that just stick out and only hit air once installed are most likely machining locators and do nothing once machined and assembled. This is an industry that I've worked in for the last 30 years and still build inspection fixtures for. Most tabs are not worth cutting of unless there's an interference.
But, if there's a webbing between two features this area may be reinforcement. Serious consideration is advised when cutting webbing.

I was under mine yesterday and looked at that tab and had about 1/2" clearance. I have the TKX trans as well. I do have 3/4" of shims under the trans mount to get the correct engine angle. Without the shims I think it would hit. I would just trim it off with a sawzall or hack saw.

I cut that tab off. T5 has the same one.

Thanks for the great insights, everyone. I'll follow CraigS and JohnK's advice and get the pinion angle set first - just to see if more spacers are needed and if that eliminates the problem - before grabbing the sawzall and hacking things off. I'll report back either way, so stay tuned.

Update: once the drive shaft was inserted, and the transmission and differential aligned, this unused transmission mount is sitting a solid 1/2" above that spot on the chassis, so no need to mess with it, since it's not affecting anything else. Glad to avoid another sawzall adventure.
