View Full Version : Aluminum Defroster Vent - Not Required when using VintageAir Two Defrosters?
Hi All,
This one has me stumped a bit. I've searched the forums, FF site, and general Googling. I'm getting ready to install the footbox heater vents and hoses, and also plan for the TWO defrost vents that came with the VintageAir kit. In the FactoryFive kit, though, I also received an ALUMINUM DEFROSTER VENT (p/n 17062) and a 2" HOSE ADAPTER WITH FLANGE (p/n 17028). Are these parts redundant or not needed when using the vents that came with the VintageAir kit?

Hoping that someone can help me figure this one out.
Thanks!

Hmm... maybe I have it figured out now. Looks like the aluminum vent box is meant to replace one of the plastic VintageAir vents, in order to fit in the allowable space between the top of the heater and the shell. Am I on the right track?

I think you are right.... But, I'm wondering how big of a need there is for a defroster vent unless you have a hard top? Does anyone get their windshield fogged up? Albeit, I am in Northern California where we get very little humidity except in the winter time.
I've decided to not use the defroster vents, only the heater.

Yeah, forgot to mention I'm a Canuck. Alberta regulations require window defrost (even for cars without roofs...).

You have definitely figured it out. That looks like a nice piece from FFR. I had to modify the one from the heater kit to work.

This is correct. I was one of the first to receive the “new” vent louver. A couple issues are it needs to be bent to fit the contour of the body or you need to use some sort of filler.
I ended up glassing in the plenum from north racecars and capping off one of the ports

That’s a nice upgrade. I had to cobble together my own out of the supplied vent and a piece of ABS pipe.
Also from Alberta and, yes the defrost does work in an open top car. Out for a drive one evening and went down into a little river valley and both sides of the windshield fogged up. Wipers took care of the outside and defrost cleared the inside.
