What the best option for brake cables and a set up to tighten?

many of us used to use the threaded brass piece shown here. the key is being able to tighten while everything is attached. unfortunately, I think lokar stopped making this but if you're handy and can fabricate, you might be able to weld something up that is threaded.

That little Lokar blockthat egchewy79 posted should help you get them nice and balanced. If you're out of adjustment range on the stock FFR setup, you can also look at different rod ends, threaded rod, etc to adjust the hardware and get you within range.

Like many, created my own version with the roller system. One key I found (Mike Bray I think) is to bend the e-brake mounts to tilt the handle into the passenger area just enough to avoid rubbing on the transmission wall. Here is a couple pics:
