View Full Version : Power steering lines: adapters/routing?

I have the power steering option from FFR, and what I believe to be a pretty standard pump supplied with my Mike Forte engine.
I think I have the right assembly for the high pressure supply side (very tentative hose routing in the photo, which I don’t like very much).
However, the return side is a mystery. It looks like I should be using rubber hose for that (there’s a barb fitting on the side of the pump). If that’s the case, why did FFR send me two braided lines instead of one? Assuming I should use the rubber return, FFR included two barb adapters that don’t fit the return port in the rack.
Has someone posted a good thread on what parts I need, hose routing, etc?

I just finished pulling off the manual steering rack and installed a power steering rack. Time is catching up with me so easy of steering finally arrived! I contacted Breeze and got his hoses. He came up with a unique configuration the adapter you install in the rack for the hose - his has a almost 180 degree loop. They are super easy to install and route the lines down. His lines come with a black rubber one to do just what you are looking for and the braded one for the pressure line. I also picked up a power steering cooler that I'm connecting into the return line - makes it easy to just get some extra rubber tubing to install it with.

Paul,
For the high pressure, Mark Reynolds at Breeze sells some 150 degree fittings that may allow you to put it under the X tube. I don't personally mind that routing, it's clean and away from the belt. Are you planning on running a cooler?
I've never had a FFR rack, but normally both the high and low pressure ports are threaded...I'm wondering if this one missed a step at the machine shop?

I used the same lines for high pressure and low pressure return. Only difference is the junction of the low pressure back into the reservoir. I chose to go out to the F panel and over the X member to help with routing for fittings. Looks clean and purposeful. 172108

The ports are threaded, it’s that the adapters are the wrong size.
I wasn’t planning on a cooler at this point.

I cans supply the adapter for the return port at the rack (if you can't locate in FFR supplied parts), a 150degree barbed hose end (lok-on), 2' of hose and a hose clamp for the reservoir.
The other fittings you have might be for a FFR remote reservoir.

I’ll be getting your kit, though I’ll be on travel for a bit. If you can give me a guesstimate on ship time to central TX, I’ll order it so I’ll receive it right after I get home.

I went similar to ILBPFoot. Straight(er) fittings on the pump and rack.
