View Full Version : Facebook access
Has anyone else who does not have a Facebook account had any issues viewing the Factory Five Facebook page? Up until a few days ago I could view what they post and view pictures or videos, but now I get a "You must be logged in" notice. I'm getting the same thing on other businesses pages as well. What's the sense of having this as your main promotion point if you block those of us who are not into social media. Any idea of what has changed? Is Facebook the one who changed the access rules?

There are many Factory Five related pages on Facebook. Are you sure you're referring to the right ("official") one?
I just checked now and the "official" Factory Five Racing page is a business page not a discussion page/group and is definitely not private.
There are other pages such as Factory Five Builder which is a private page/group, meaning that it's somebody's private sandbox that you need approval to join and see content in.
Note that in 99.999% of cases there is no malicious intent in making a page private...it's used to keep the scammers out.

Are you talking about the Factory Five forum page on Facebook? That page is set up as a Companion page to the forum. It is not set up as a community.
No, I'm talking about the Factory Five main page where Dave does his videos of things that he wants to discuss with the community. All I've ever been able to do is view the posts that they make, any videos, etc, but I can't post any comments because I'm not a Facebook member. It's only happened within the last week.

Rick, you are correct! Something changed on the MetaFB side? As with Twitter and many others that are working to keep more control/access to their content and entire site/platform(s) accordingly. They're forcing individuals to create and ID and log into their sites. Some sites have a time delay and/or any movement beyond the initial "click of that link or page" forces the login screen. I'm not a fan of the FB social platform, I found it manipulative and toxic and left it years ago.
With that said, I too used to search: "facebook factoryfive" once or twice a month and visit the F5 video's that Dave & MadDog would share. Honestly, it was the only information on the FB site that I wanted to view. I found the F5 content enjoyable and informative, for company and product updates, and there were different, or dedicated vids released specifically on FB -vs- YT. Which is fine! It's their choice to release FFR content on whatever platform they chose. I respect that.
It seems, er, it's noticeable that F5 had stopped or slowed down (probably due to Covid and just being so dang busy) releasing any new content out on Youtube? I mean, there's a month old vid, then another from a month prior and then a 7 month gap for the next vid. Again, their choice and I'm not complaining, one just learns to live without the finer things in life?! I really did miss the F5 vids, but I just looked to other content on the topic of "factoryfive roadster builds" - i.e.427, I'm looking at & watching you! ;)
Anyway, maybe F5 will start moving "replicating" more content back-over to YT (hint hint) for those of us who do not want to be apart of FB? Perhaps FB will switch back to being more open, doubt it! But yeah, I understand you not being able to access the F5 content on FB without an ID.

There are many of us that are non FB people and miss the content that was on YT. I have never been on FB and have never had the desire to be. I've lived my entire life just fine without being electronic friends with anyone, except here of course, but we all have one thing in common. COOL CARS THAT WE BUILD. When I see people staring at their phones all the time I think live your life don't watch other people doing theirs. Actually get together in person and do stuff. Remember when you actually called somebody and talked. Don't get me wrong, having a handheld computer that you can make calls with is great, but I don't think you should live your life staring at your phone. Enough ranting.

I am closing my FB account. I know many are. I never cared for it and found it irritating to use. Watching a video in that little frame was just annoying. There were better discussion technologies in the 80's.
I would rather see a direct video link from the Factory Five WEB site, in multiple formats, such as HD, 2K, and/or 4K (aka UHD) formats. I have no need to see a live stream as I am not one to organize my life to try and catch those.
I get it Mastertech5. For me the so-called 'smart' phone has gotten to be too irritating to carry around. I have disabled everything to try and get it back to just being a phone. I even had SMS (text messaging) blocked on my account, through my provider. Best thing I have done in a long time. Far more relaxing and no more constant interruptions.

I setup up a John Doe FB with no friends just so I could access the private car forums and make inquiries on things for sale. After a couple of years, still anonymous. I know a lot of people who have stopped using it, but my understanding is if you want to close it, you need supreme court intervention to make that happen!

I'm sure it's Facebooks doing, not FFR's. It's ridiculous how much Facebook wants to control their members accounts.
I was recently told by Facebook that I must mandatorily allow two-factor authentication (2FA) security, or I would not be allowed to log in to my account.
They claim this was because I could be a targeted individual by hackers. This 2FA security may eventually be available to all FB users, but they have made it mandatory to anyone who may be at particular risk, like human rights defenders, actors, journalists, and government officials, or for anyone with high-risk social media accounts. Now I am a Admin for a few FB Groups, one to do with gardening, one on RV'ing, and the Cobra group, Talk Cobra. These are small potato's as groups go, other than perhaps the gardening one with nearly 10,000 members.
