Has anybody a recommendation for hood pins for the Coupe?

I was chatting with Mahlon Miller last year about a time when pulling into the pits at High Plains Raceway, his bonnet flipped up. Now THERE is a visibility problem :-)

And then yesterday Randy Flores posted a video on FB Factory Five Builders of a Daytona attempting a u-turn in LA. He gets clipped and up pops the bonnet. Reminded me of the conversation I had a year ago.

Thx!

I recently purchased the FRPP hood pin set M16700A.

Why? I had one hood latch come open during a 20 minute track session- bump, vibration, who knows. The result is under braking (1G) the hood would come up and twist at the rear- if it were to twist just right I could imagine that the other latch would let go - and you are not going to see anything with the nose forward being all belted in and what not. I ended the session early.

For now I'm placing a few inches of Gorilla tape over the hood latches or putting a strip of tape on each side of the nose at the rear.

I need to figure out how to place and make a frame stand-off for the hood pins.

Where are you considering mounting? I am looking at the diagonal'ish frame member extending forward from the top of the foot box. Looks like the pin set you are using has pins ~ 3 5/8" long, about an inch of which sticks through the bonnet to accept the pin. How short do you estimate your pins are to effectively directly tap into a frame member? My guestimate is that a 4" pin of the Quik-Latch variety may work, but I am a couple of days away from confirming this.

Thanx for the response!

Hello

Another option would be to install hood locks. The FFR latches are from a Triumph Spitfire. Triumph makes locks to work with the latches.

Ron:
Wow- those hood locks are cool and would do the trick- I was not aware of them.

My fear is that I'd lose the key and/or not be able to open the hood quickly in-between track sessions. My ignition is rigged up keyless for this reason too.

I was doing some mockups in cardboard and it seems that a flat plate mounted to the existing hood latch 'catch' mount on the frame and a 1" square tube spacer would work to mount the pins. The pins would stick out of the nose just to the upper rear of the latch levers and rely on the flexibility of the nose to allow it to be pulled and flexed over the pins. Or find threaded couplers and extend the pins from a flat plate.

It seems like too far of a gap to do this on the upper part of the nose- where I was initially intending to mount the pins.
