View Full Version : Ron's FFR 1965 Daytona Build You tube video
Ron is local to us here in the Sacramento area and built a beautiful 1965 Daytona Coupe, this video was just released so thought I would share it. Ron also painted this car himself in his driveway. This is a very high end build with a lot of custom options added.
Cheers

Interesting grate work in the radiator tunnel hole. I'd be interested in seeing more of it!

I used the same material for the radiator inlet and outlet grills. I fabricated both grills from Black Powder Coated Perforated Hexagon Aluminum Mesh Sheet. The aluminum has a raw thickness of 0.065" / 14 Gauge. It has an open area of 77%. I was looking for a hex mesh material that had as much open area as possible to maximize air flow through the ducting.
I purchased the hex mesh from Custom Car Grill - Perforated Hexagon Aluminum Grill Mesh Sheets by customcargrills (https://www.customcargrills.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Perf-Hex)
I used their edge molding to dress out the raw edges - 1/16" Neoprene Rubber Edge Trim from customcargrills (https://www.customcargrills.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Trim_Neo)
I fabricated mounting brackets from 1/8" x 3/4" aluminum and SS Angle Clips that I formed to fit the angles needed to fit my application.

how did you affix the clips to the body? I'm assuming something like fiberglass resin or some type of adhesive?
I've been concerned with something hitting the radiator, and this fits the bill well. Like the covers protecting the lower fog lights too.....

Hello, regarding mounting clips to the body. I used J-B Weld Bondar Product Code 50139 (Plastic Bonder Syringe - Black | J-B Weld (jbweld.com) (https://www.jbweld.com/product/j-b-plastic-bonder-syringe)), which is advertised as having and adhesion strength of 3,770 psi.
Before using the J-B Weld on my car I did some testing. I first tried directly "gluing" SS clips to scrap fiberglass body parts without any special treatment. The joint did not hold up well.
I then scuffed the fiberglass and stainless steel with sandpaper to create a "profile" and then cleaned both surfaces with acetone just before applying the J-B Weld. After a 24 hour (overnight) cure period I tried breaking the joint. The fiberglass failed before the joint would fail. So, that was my process. Scuff, clean, glue, wait. The clips have been on the car for 4 years with no failure.
