Hello everyone.

Over the last few months I've done a lot of research into how I'd like my Roadster to go together. Some of the things I originally had on the order will be removed (heater, front sway bar), and some stuff added (glove box, floor mats), but I'm wondering about removing somethings to allow me to go aftermarket since F5 doesn't offer an acceptable, or cost-effective solution.

For instance, I'm not diggin' the seats. In fact, none of the seat options work for me. I'd like a taller seat, with a head rest, but I don't want it to be a racing seat, nor do I want those huge wings around my head. Something like the Corbeau A4 would be ideal.

Also, ditch the side pipes. I'm going with my exhaust under the car to exit just in front of the rear tires. I'll be going with Spintech oval tubing and a muffler of undetermined type.

Has anyone deleted the standard supplied items on their kit? Also, if you did, did the price drop?

Yes and yes.
My experience is that if you don't want/need a particular item they will delete it out and give you a credit.

They will delete and give you a credit, however the credit will not be for full retail. Sometimes for items such as seats, pipes, steering racks or pedal boxes, etc. you can actually come out ahead by taking the part rather than credit and then selling it here through the classifieds. I have done this with a couple of cars that I have built for customers.

Thanks for the quick answers fellas.

To be honest, I'm not picky about full retail value. Just something honest for the reduction in my order. This will free up a few bucks during the big hit and spread the expenses for what I deleted over a few months.

I asked this question to Mike DiGiorgio at FFR. He said that they will credit for big stuff, whole assemblies etc. But if you don't want (for example) the brake hard line material, ebrake handle or light bulbs there is no accommodation.

I have a coupe on order and deleted the seats and J and side pipes (for the same reasons), as well as a couple of other things. As others have stated, the credit wasn't anywhere close to retail, but I am not big on trying to resell things. I know it works well for some people, but for me it always seems more of a hassle than it's worth - endless emails and texts, negotiating, getting paid, shipping or meeting up, etc. I also didn't think there would be much demand for the standard kit parts I deleted as it seems a lot of people change them out anyway.

Though truth be told, I will admit that I suck at reselling anything and I never seem to end up close to getting even, let alone ahead!

Anyway for those reasons and since I am not going to be using some of those FFR parts, it made sense for me at least to delete some items and put it towards the expense of the aftermarket parts.

Yea, I may keep the exhaust in that regard. Something to play around with occasionally. But them seats... Maybe if I could pull off a couple bar stools but my wife would stare daggers at me if she seen them in our kitchen. :p

Seats sell quickly if in new condition. And get a decent price. Probably as much or more than the credit. I've done it several times. They're useful in the beginning of your build to mock up the cockpit and evaluate what seats you really want. Some story with side pipes. So X2 on what Jeff said.

Thank you. I'll check the classifieds to see what they're going for.

I deleted many things from my original order. Yes, the credit isn't that great, but at least you get something and you'll have less "Clutter"

That's my main beef. On one hand, I could make a few bucks selling what I don't want. On the other hand, it's the work of getting stuff sold (holding the "inventory", shipping, dealing with flaky buyers, etc...) that turns me off. I don't have unlimited storage in my home so holding onto seats isn't appealing to me. Especially considering I'll have 30ish boxes of Roadster parts lying around until it's built. Basically, if they give me anything for the seats I'll take it, but the exhaust will be easy to store, and possibly used in the future, so that I'll keep.

I've been talking to Dave L at FFR about the value of getting a more complete BOM a month or so before shipment. I received a BOM that was the major assemblies and about 20 line items. Then with the shipment the BOM was 20 pages. If I had that beforehand there's a number of items I would have deleted. I've got a set of Mustang GT brakes just taking up space as I went with Wilwood. I already had a set of 94 SN95 spindles for my pin drive suspension and they sent me a new set anyway even though I tried to stop them. I've gone back to FFR to see if they want any of this extra stuff back and they don't have any interest.

And now what do I do with all of this? I sold the spindles on eBay who hit me with a 15% fee(!) and are holding my money for 2+ weeks. Plus about $40 for shipping. So eBay isn't a very good option like it used to be. The forum is probably a better option but you still have to deal with packing and shipping.

I pointed out to FFR that I would bet they are shipping $100k+ a year in parts that are not being used. I think that got their attention but I doubt if anything is going to change.
