Good evening everyone. I finally received the result from the last autocross and the type 65 has arrived.
The car finished first by a good margin, 2 Porsche GT3's and a Cayman GT4 had a home built car put a hurt on them.
As you can tell I am excited. Check out the video on my channel at Cobra Daytona Build. The results are attached.

That's Fantastic! Way to go! How did your laps feel to you, controlled or a bit on edge?

Oh how I wish we were closer so we could run against each other and compare notes.

My local club has an incredibly deep talent pool....average event attendance around 120+ drivers, the majority of our regulars travel the entire SE region racing every autox they can find, several current and past national champions, etc. I spent all of 2021 getting to know my Coupe-R on bad tires, and started 2022 on new RT660s, slowly climbing my way up the raw time charts. As happy as I've become finally finding some success, there is so much more left in the car it's astonishing.

Well done on your success too! Especially if those Porsche and Lotus drivers are as cutthroat as the guys here in the southeast! Always fun to show the crowd that a hand built car can go toe-to-toe with Europe's finest sports cars.

Logan, It would be fun to compete. The other coupe in the area does autocross with me and we have a great time, doing the Norcal Shelby club Mini Nat together on Saturday.
The car is a hand full and not like driving a modern Porsche. If you can drive one of these fast I think you can drive anything fast. You buy a Porsche and they have spent hundreds of millions fine tuning the cars, plus lots of online forums to make them even better and faster. I have run a Miata in autocross and it was so much easier to drive, no comparison. Not much out there for the type65, we are a small group that really pushes these cars. I think the gglc club has some good drivers but the top tier guys run in the Amercan Autocorss series as they usually have lots of national champs and such. Once the weather cools off I will run a time or two with them to see. How does your Mustang compare to the coupe on the autocross?

Hit the nail on the head. Even though it's called Factory Five RACING, the vast majority of builders spend 5x more money on their paint job than a season worth of tires and entry fees. Just the way it is. You see a lot of pretty cars at the car shows, and that generates sales.

As a pure racecar, the FFR is not quite comparable to other top options available both above and below this price point, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because the FFR is not a pure racecar. Anyone who has seen my Daytona Wheel and Tire Repository can attest, their suspension design is pretty sub-optimal for modern wheels for the sake of enabling the "style" of the 1960s with short control arms and axles and deep dish wheels. I am striving to sort of make mine the best racecar it can be while still being daily driver capable (engineers know that compromise always sucks).

My 2017 Mustang GTPP was sooo much easier to drive fast. In the long run, the Daytona will obviously be faster overall....just gonna take 10x the seat time and 100x the wrenching time to get it there. In brief moments of frustration, I may or may not have had ideas of swapping my Daytona with a Porsche.. :p

And y'all should stop in Austin if you're ever close. Our autox events hit 170-180 folks an event, and we still get 5 runs and home by 3pm. They run a tight ship.

Do you suffer from having no class (like my FFR hot rod), and have to run e-mod or similar? Or do you get a break like the Cobra's do, by being called out by name as an exception for CAM S (I think?)

We typically get 7-8 runs with 125-ish drivers.

The FFR Roadster (Cobra) is called out specifically as legal in CAM-S. By loose interpretation, most regions recognize the Coupe (Cobra Daytona) for CAM-S too, provided you aren't abusing the privilege or demolishing your competition badly enough to be protested. If the need arises, can always just slap some Hoosiers on it and go to XP. That would sure help my ambitions for top raw time :D

Greg is in California, I'm in Alabama, and it sounds like we should meet you in Texas someday!

7-8 runs, DAMN. I always say I need just one or two more ;)

We get 9-10 with the GGLC and that's the reason I run with them. Usually 5 in the AM and 5 in the PM if all goes well.
Not cheap at $95 but it's a good group of people.
Salt Lick in Austin is the place to go, love that BBQ. When are we meeting?

Logan, I am also striving to make it a decent track car and a decent street car. It has AC and is a decent ride for the street but will still perform on the track.
