As I continue to prepare for kit delivery I decided to buy an extra set of wheel hubs and swap in 3" studs. I like to have an extra hub set with me at the track, so the FFR supplied hubs will be my backups. I purchased Timken brand, PN 513115. Despite catalog images showing "USA" on the hub and bearings, this is now a made in Korea part with no identification on the bearings. Furthermore, they do not use the standard .594" knurl size used on Mustang front hubs, so the off the shelf Moroso and ARP studs are too big. The knurl size for the Timken hubs needs to be for a .565" hole, and there are no long studs available in that size. I returned them.

Therefore, I'm wondering if anyone has recently purchased hubs and swapped out studs? If so, what brand hub did you purchase? Also, what brand hub does FFR supply, and does it use a standard .594" knurl?

Thanks!
Rich

Easy to drill/ream out the holes in the hub the few thousanths needed to use the ARP studs. Details in my build thread, linked in my signature below. Takes less than 10 minutes with a drill press and appropriately sized reamer.

I can answer one of the easy questions. For the last several builds, Factory Five supplied PartsMaster PM513115 front hubs. 1994 - 04 SN-95 Mustang hubs. HTH a little.

I've always had good luck with "National" or "Timken" brand bearings as well as anything that comes out of the box marked "Koyo" (OEM Ford supplier).

Here is a pretty good write-up on the drilling/reaming a larger hole and the stud installation procedure.

I've done dozens of sets with this method (except I used a drill press to make sure I was squared off to the mounting surface).

There are some high dollar replacement studs that don't require drilling if you want to go that route instead.

I didn't want to drill. Shouldn't have to considering I already had the application specific studs that are a .594 knurl. The problem is the aftermarket hubs.

I ended up buying a Moog brand replacement. Same PN as Timken. This one uses the same size knurl as Ford. The Moroso studs pressed right in. Winner.
