Hi all,

Read about various ways of installing front glass and am investigating things now. Some use trim around the edge of the windshield , some put spacers and just use urethane. The manual says just use the goo. All ways have their merits. Either way how do yo prevent the urethane from oozing to the interior and how to finish the edge where the headliner goes. I saw some people use c channel. I did not get any of that that I can see. I did find this . It would nicely finish the edge as well as provide a stop for the urethane. I know I would need to scuff and prime before this, but would this work?

Here is the trim I was thinking of using.170283170284170283

Second question. Where can I use these other pieces?

I have no idea for #1. #2 it looks like people have used it between the body and door in various formats by cutting it. #3 was my extra bulb seal I was thinking of using around the windows to seal the edges of the body to headliner and clean it up. Any thoughts from more those more experienced? I finally got my paint done. Not cut and buffed yet, but maybe this fall.

Question:
Could you just use some black door edge guard to create a clean body lip and back fill with the Urethane Windshield Goop?

Suggestion:
Check out what Edwardb did when he built his Gen-3 Type 65 Coupe. He always seems to come up with some amazing solutions.

By the way, I LOVE the color of your car.
It will be elegant & quite refined upon completion.

That trim you're suggesting for around the opening is way too big and thick. I've seen several builds with trim around there. But much smaller and adds minimal thickness. That's what you want. I didn't put anything on mine, and was careful to sand it clean and made sure the painter finished the edge. So it looks OK on the inside. But I also sprayed my headliner, vs. your cloth, so agree it's not easy to make a finished looking edge.

As for trim around the outside of the windshield, most including me use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NAIKX0G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It makes the installation a little more difficult, and unfortunately as I found out more difficult to remove. I had to replace my windshield after a rock collided with me. It does look nice when properly installed. But you take the good with the bad. Urethane is used to bond the windshield in either case. A properly sized bead won't squeeze out. But takes skill and experience. I was fortunate to have some help from an experienced installer both times. I have seen some put a small self-adhesive foam dam around the perimeter. But I was unable to find anything and didn't need it. The area on the body where the urethane goes needs to be roughly sanded and primed. It's completely hidden under the black border of the windshield. Which you also have to put on with the black primer. As GoDadGo mentioned, I explain a lot of this in my build thread.

For those rubber pieces, #1 I used partly for the small firewall pieces that get added on each side once the body is installed; #2 is for around the doors; #3 looks like regular bulb seal, that's used in multiple places. Front and rear splash guards plus the inside rear corners of the cockpit.

Thanks. I did a recent review of the Edward b build and some others. Thanks also for the kind words. The door edge guard might be better as it is softer and not as high.

Thanks Paul. Don’t use that one. Got it. I will have to just get some regular c channel or cut the bulb off that one to finish off the edge with cloth headliner. I saw others do that ..then use urethane and trim if it fits in the opening without cutting. Much appreciated !
