Bloomberg News blows the lid off the Montana title tax loophole.

How soon before California and other States start their investigations? MV offices get together with the local, county, and state police to start collecting license plate reader data from across each state in search of such cars in their jurisdiction? When will we see the law enforcement units stalking cars shows and Cars & Coffee type events in search of Montana plates?

In reading the article, I see the lid being blown off this practice, legal yes, but soon to be legislated out by certain, revenue hungry states.

You’re exactly right Bill. We’ve both been around this long enough to have seen that Titles Unlimited deal go down and remember lots of owners shaking in their boots when the jig was up, fearing that their registrations were going to be pulled. I’ve thought all along that it’s just a matter of time until the Montana house of cards collapses.

When I moved to CA back in 2015 I had recently purchased a "new to me" motorcycle and car before relocating to CA. These purchases were within 12 months of my move. CA took it upon themselves to fully tax me on the purchases of BOTH vehicles even though I'd already paid my sales tax in WI. I was livid! $1200 for one year for a Chevy Sonic and a Honda NV700X. CA and their bureaucratic red tape can burn in hell.

So I say, FVCK EM! Anywhere you can save a penny, do it!

I would move to North Korea before I moved to California.
