View Full Version : Vent blower mounting location

I’m trying to decide the best place to mount my vent blowers - either horizontal on the F-panels or vertical on the 1”x1” chassis tube. A lot of builders choose the F-panel location so there must be a good reason.

The F-panel location would be less challenging for the motors from an external heat load perspective, but it clutters up the wheel well (to me).
Installing the blowers on the 1x1 tube is a good location and out of sighte, but I will probably have to insulate/shield the motor from the engine heat.

Thoughts/discussion?

I don't have these, but I would say make sure the front one on the F panel is as high as possible so it won't have any interference with tire movement under suspension load. Make sure the rear location doesn't interfere with your exhaust exit, and also that it's not too close that it the hose will melt. I think that part looks fine, but easier to see when you can walk around the car.

F-panel for me. Those fans are really noisy, so the further from the cockpit the better. You will never see them in the wheel well, and I can't think of a single time that they got in the way during maintenence.

I mounted them and the hose as high as they would go. The "standard" installation. I still melted the cheap plastic hose above the headers. I went with high temp brake vent tubing.

Now if could just find quieter fans........

If you run the wires inside the ducts it makes things Clean & Easy Peasy!

GDG Have you tried using your fresh air vents on a hot day yet? Mine blow hot air on me. I noticed you ran your drivers side hose up inside the top of the footbox. Was curious if you can actually feel cool air from them mounted in that location?

My blowers finally worked well once I routed intake hoses down by the brake vent holes in the body.
I use them to cool off my feet when I'm stuck in traffic, but that's about the only time I turn them on.

Here in Arizona it just blows hot air up the foot box, frankly more annoying then relief, like a hair dryer.

I haven't yet tried them in the slightly cooler weather but again in AZ summer heat its just more hot air.

Most probably wouldn't take their car out in this weather however

I did as high as possible. The top mounting screw is actually into the 3/4 inch tube.

may be nice in that case on a cold morning with some engine heat assist in the footbox :) LOL

Lol, I'm thinking the vents might become handy once Temps here get a bit lower and I have the engine heat in the foot boxes, then I can pull some cooler air through the vents.
