Good morning, I just recently bought a very nice Daytona coupe project that's around 80% completed. I have a few questions, how is everyone putting on their front splash guard on hood? Also Rear splash guard? I believe I have a good idea how just curious if anyone better idea. I was planning on using 6-32 stainless button head Allen's to mount front splash guard. Rear I was gonna make passenger side rear splash guard removable. What type of ahesive is better for the fiberglass. Any pics would help. Thanks.

Congratulations on your purchase. Nice looking Coupe. Seems like a very clean build. Sure is yellow! Like the interior treatment a lot. Only comment is I'm not a fan of low back seats in the Coupe. That roll bar cage is right behind your head. Without high back seats, I'd make sure those are very well padded. Still not the best (IMO) but better than nothing.

For the front splash guards, I assume you mean the upper one that goes into the hood (cowl)? I riveted mine along the fiberglass spine that runs along the top. Then have bulb seal and on the curve where it fits around the side. It jams into the opening between the fender lip and the fiberglass along the curve. No further fastening was required. Hasn't moved in three seasons of driving.

I have both of my rear splash guards removable. Nutserts into the chassis aluminum and 10-32 button head screws. For the outside, I bonded an adhesive-mount stud (like this https://www.mcmaster.com/97590A561/) to the bottom of the fender and made an invisible attachment to the splash guard. The stock method is with a bolt through the body. That works too and is a lot simpler.

The most recommended adhesive for the vinylester body is 3M Marine High Strength Repair Filler. Commonly called HSRF. Not cheap and right now hard to find. Others have suggested alternatives but I only have experience with this stuff.

@edwardB Thanks for the reply. I've been thinking of changing seats to a high back at some point. Until then I'll make a pad that mounts to the bar. Yes the gaurd that goes to the hood cowl. I was going to rivet it but then you will see the "bad side" of rivets towards center of the hood. The cowl dips down some and rivet gun hits hood. What rivet gun do you have and any pics of how you mounted riveted it on. Thanks

@EdwardB, thanks, I've been thinking about changing to a high back seat at some point. For now I'll make a pad to attach to the bar behind my head/passenger. I was gonna rivet on the hood cowl splash gaurd. But I can't get my rivet gun from center of hood towards wheel well. It hits the hood. I don't want to rivet from the wheel well towards the canter of hood. Then you will see the ugly side of the rivet. Only reason for using 6-32 Allen's. Do you happen to have any pics of how you installed yours? Thanks

Thanks for helping him out Paul - most of that coupe was built based on your excellent build thread! No way I would have ever gotten to the 80% mark without your help!!!

Thanks Edward b , I may at some point change to a high back seat, for now I'll put a pad on the bar. Do you happen to have any pics of how you installed your splash gaurd on the hood? Thanks Brent you did selle a very nice build for me to finish up. Can't wait to drive it. It's already stops traffic just sitting in my garage.

Wow that is a great looking coupe and with an Aluminator to top it off! I wouldn't have ever thought about yellow, but that looks great, congrats!

Hi Bill,
Looking good! Do you know what was done to the underside of the hood?

Wow! You really won’t get much attention when you’re out and about. Congrats on the coupe.

If you don't mind my asking, is that school bus yellow like on the 2013 Boss 302s?

Do you happen to have any pics of how you installed your splash guard on the hood?

I looked at my build pictures before I posted and I didn't have any on file. I did find a picture from a car show that I cropped and played with the color and contrast. You can see them. This location on a video I did at the same show also pictures them: https://youtu.be/w2pLNjTEJOM?t=159.

The build manual shows where they have bulb seal, but unfortunately doesn't picture them installed. The bottom and angled edges seal against the pontoons/lower splash guards. Hopefully this helps.
