I wish there was an affordable kit that would let me build one of these.

I've looked into this pretty extensively. There are a few kits out there that you could complete for around $75-80K. However, that is without much modification and using most of the parts supplied - which most on here are not typically satisfied with!

I've been real close to pulling the trigger, but you have to outlay some pretty serious dollars up front and many of these companies owners are getting aged and not sure there are succession plans in place. Some are also overseas so any recourse would seem difficult. In addition, there was one that some people lost a lot of money when it closed it's doors unexpectedly.

I really hoped F5 would come up with one, but my understanding is that as part of settling a lawsuit with Shelby many years ago they agreed not to as part of the agreement. However, that is only what I read and we all know everything on the internet is true, so that could be completely false.

Lets start a Gofundme or Kickstarter and start a new company selling reasonably priced GT40's!

Ah, the RCR - my next project. I had a GTD40 in UK in the 80's/90's and put 60,000 miles on it as my daily and track car.. the car I should never have sold. Hence the end goal has always been another '40, and the RCR seems the best option nowadays (unless money is unlimited!)

I've also looked into this pretty extensively for a future project. If I was to do one, it would probably be either an RCR40 MkI or a Superlite GT-R. Race Car Replicas and Superlite are sister companies - the RCR40 is the replica of the original and the GT-R is the replica of the modern GT.

beautiful cars indeed. I actually live not to far from RCR and really considered it. Until I tried to sit in one. Cramped is an understatement and the way you get in and out my joints did a big nope. So if I do another one it will most likely be the daytona coupe. Until then I will be enjoying my MKIV.

This is what I've heard Dave Smith say about why they aren't doing one - visibility is horrible and it is not the least bit comfortable so they feel the market is very very limited....

Hot rod visibility is not any better - may even be worse :D and the GT40 seating position is way more comfortable.

As for getting in and out, that's just like the hot rod - there's just a trick to it :)

I've not had an opportunity to check out either the RCR40 or the GT-R in person but from what I've heard/read the GT40 is pretty small and cramped while the GT-R is quite a bit more spacious and comfortable.

Arden also builds a GT40 Kit that is reasonably priced, but is a different approach altogether than some of the others. They now have a plus 4" cockpit as an option. I am height challenged so wouldn't need it, but for others who are taller or just want one that you can get in and out of easier, it may be an option.

Wow - that's spectacular! Did you happen to document the build in a build thread or blog anywhere? I'd love to read more about it.

If you look at a side view, at least to me, there is just something in the symmetry that seems different and just not sure I care for. However, for some folks that may not an issue and they now have a plus 4" cockpit as an option. I am height challenged so wouldn't need it, but for others who are taller or just want one that you can get in and out of easier, it may be an option.

EDIT: Actually I think I like the side view of the plus 4 better.

A friend of mine and his buddy bought the first two stretched kits from them. They did a great job on the stretch. Looks really good. He is dropping an Aluminator with a Mindeola transaxle in it. The car does have plenty of room for me at 6'3" tall and 210 pounds.

Make sure you get in Coupe before purchasing one......unless you were in a circus sideshow....as pretzel boy.

This is my SLC, cramped is an understatement. Hoping the Coupe 65 will be better and easier to get in and out of. I got this car stupid cheap so I can never decide if selling it would be worth it.
