TKO500 mating with 1965 289

Hi everyone, Finally have had a chance to move my project forward.

So, i finally received my TKO500. My 289 is already installed in the car.

Can i install my transmission with the engine underneath. I have a hoist and a transmission jack. From what i can see, bell housing will at least have to come off and mount on the transmission.

Or do i have to remove the engine and reinstall with everything mounted together.

Also with the shift. What position should i move it to. There are 3 positions where the shifter can be moved to. Currently i have it in the middle position. When i do my measurements, it looks like the shifter mounting handle will land just past the cutout for the opening.

you can but it is tight. The shifter and mount have to be off and a second set of hands is helpful. Lifting the engine off the mounts and sliding it forward a few inches also helps.
Mid shifter location worked on mine with a TKO and Dart block so yours should be similar.
