Thought it time I post my LCS 2022 experience.

I had a 1116 mile one way trip to LCS in my Mk1 from SW Florida. The two day 17 hour trip took 2 days and 24 hours. It was all volume traffic stop and o for hours in brutal heat. Fortunately I have a Rod Tops top and AC but you still sweat like a water fountain. The cars at the hotel lot were beautiful as you would imagine. Everyone was very nice. Last year was my first year and somehow managed to be one of he last cars out of the hotel parking lot headed to the Speedway meeting area before the parade into town. This year was no different. I had 1/8th reading on the fuel gauge but the engine died on I-70 at mile marker 87. The great folks from Hotrod Brothers Customs stopped and offered to get gas for us. They did, however, I wasn't out of fuel after all as the engine would tun over fine, and you could hear it fire sometimes but no start. Thank you again Justin and your buddies. You guys are awesome! I brought lots of tools and test devices and with the inline spark tester and multi-meter etc., we determined it was the coil, or possibly ECU, or maybe something else lol. Henry and the Hotrod Brothers Customs guys went on to the show while I waited for Hagerty roadside assistance. Hagerty was great, but the tow companies were a disaster. My car was to be 1 of 5 cars displayed at the FFR Truck in town and I still can't help feeling like I let Dave down, even though I know there were plenty of cars to take my place. While waiting for roadside assistance, there were 4 folks who stopped to offer help. A couple on vacation, a great guy named Jim and another named Carl. Even though help was on the way, they gave me their numbers and asked that I call should I need anything. Again, great people! Lastly, a very nice couple, Mark and Michelle were headed to the St Louis area in their 18 wheeler and stopped to offer help and an ice cold bottle of water. THANK YOU Mark and Michelle in the Factory Five Delivery Truck!

It seems I'm always thanking Henry for something, and this time, it was a tow home! Actually much more than that, but it worked out that he planned on driving back to Florida with a 15' U-Haul truck pulling a car, but hadn't planned on it being mine! Thank you again Henry. Also thank you to Mike Trainor and everyone who came up to me back at the hotel to say sorry and offer help. You folks are the best and are what make the Cobra community the best.
God willing, I'll be back next year with a new route. If I'm going to spend that much time in the car, I might as well enjoy the scenery.

My MSD Blaster 3 coil went bad. I currently have an MSD Blaster 2 and after a timing check/adjustment, the Pig is running great once again. (I'm ordering a new non-MSD/Holley coil)

What a total bummer, Mark. Were you able to make it to any of the show? Hopefully you'll have another chance next year to have your car on display at the FF tent.
I give you tons of credit driving the entire way from FL. Most coming from that far would trailer their roadster. I took mine in gelcoat for the first time (and hopefully for the last time) and saw many unique builds. Hope to see you there next year.

I never made it to the show, but learned some lessons on how to pack, what to pack and what to have with me at all times.

I'm sad that you didn't make it to the show. After all the challenges you've had over the past year, and making it all the way to the hotel, it's a real bummer that it ended up on a trailer. I'm glad you found the problem and have the solution ready to go. Hope to see you next year!

Sorry to hear that Mark, I know you were really looking forward to going and having the car run well. As I know, Henry is always there to help. Glad you got it workEd out.

All in all, still a great trip. We had a blast! Troubleshooting on the highway was dangerous at best. Troubleshooting in the parking lot was tough because it was a long day. Bringing it home on the trailer was my backup plan, just in case. All went well, against all odds. I appreciate the help driving and the help with the gas. Now, that was expensive!!!

Glad to help,

Henry

Correct on all counts. And of course only joking about what we narrowed the issue down to. You actually said coil at the hotel but then I couldn’t find my coil wire with the correct ends on it and it was getting late etc. etc. Otherwise, I’d have to drive it all the way back home again. The hardest part was re-hiding the correct coil wire while you continued to look for it. Lol

Still glad I went and met the folks that I did and I obviously missed a whole bunch more.

What a rotten run of bad luck to have. Perhaps engage your local minister of religion to fit the new coil, set the timing and whilst at it, bless the car in all of it's glorious entirety.

Glad you guys made it home without loss of life, limb or Cobra!
With that said, next year when you head to Texas let's meet up somewhere once again.

Seems like your good luck went away when Flat Thierry got out of the car. Coincidence? Bummer that your Saturday didn’t play out as planned but happy that things worked out reasonably well. I’ll make sure that we hold a spot for you in the FFR display next year…you’ve earned it

That’s very nice of you Jeff. I can’t say I’ve earned it any more than anyone else who is immersed in these cars as we are. The timing and location of a coil failure certainly could have been better to say the least, however I am still glad that I went. In hindsight my post could have been better balanced with the good I experienced there along with the not so good for this trip. One thing is for sure, if I’m going to have a challenging couple of days, there’s no better people to have it with.

Here, here Mark!

You're not the first in our band of misfits to encounter issues and probably won't be the last but you can rest assured that we won't leave you hanging!
