Coupe #497 now has Patriot Blue doors. Two coats of PPG Shopline base coat and three coats of clear.
We didn't have enough good weather to do the whole car. We're very pleased as this is our first-ever auto painting experience.

Wow!! Nice looking color DARKPT. I can't wait to see the rest of it painted. Looking good so far, and please post more pic's when you get the rest painted. P.S. that was one of my color choices "SWEET" but I have finally decided to go with a very dark midnight blue/artic white combo when I order mine (identical to Dave's coupe)

Looks great so far! I like the blue...I'm either going for this or Ryan's shade of Red....Good luck with the rest.

Hmmm, I was told that Dave used the same Patriot Blue for his Coupe that I used (if you mean Dave Smith). The pics I posted using a flash show the color lighter than it will normally be. I'm going with Bright White for the stripes, which looks just like the Arctic White.

Just this weekend I cut the openings in my doors and mounted the steel inside. My doors are scratched and still have the mold marks, nothing so smooth and good looking as yours......that will all have to come later. Your doors look great! :)

I had a few questions about how we built our paint booth, so I whipped this up for anyone who wants it. Right-click, save as, or just click and wait for it to load:

Thanks for the info DARKPT, was not sure if Dave S used that color or not but in the pic's it looked darker so was going to start there and add black to get what I wanted. Bulid is looking good by the way!!!

Fantastic write-up about the booth. Has every bit of information necessary. I'll be copying this and thank you very much.

That body buck is fantastic. Mine was cobbled together out of scrap lumber with some old wheelbarrow wheels on it. Probably didn't cost $20, but it did the job and sits behind the body shop awaiting the final body work and paint!! Easy to roll around too with those wheel barrow wheels.

Was told to bring the coupe over to the shop 1 to 2 weeks from Mon 12/12/2011 as he is sanding, painting and mounting the body on to the chassis of an older Corvette. He will call, no paint yet, just the doors fitted, rear hatch window fitted and front clip scoop's backside fiberglassed in (a piece of tailpipe welded at an angle to a light sheet metal plate to provide air cooling over the close left header). However still progress. Then back home for final odds and ends and then mid to late Jan back for paint. My surgery put a bit of a crimp in scheduling as I tend to still get tired easily and don't work in the shop as much and as long as I'ld like. Guess 71 year old bodies aren't like 31 year old bodies. Plus I had a bunch of fall chores that didn't get done that I have had to do, thankfully done now. Hey, everyday seems a few points better.
Sorry Darkpt for the hijack here.
