Hi all, quick one for you. I have a temporary license but no VIN yet. Is it possible for me to get insurance without a VIN? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I had no luck with it. Everyone ultimately wanted a VIN. I was covered under my Homeowners while it was in my garage. I got a rider for when I towed it for paint and back.

Yes. Give them your FFR chassis number for the VIN and then when you get a reassigned VIN from the CHP give them that updated VIN.

I guess different per state, but in TX the VIN *is* the chassis number.

Good to know! I'm also with USAA. They normally send me to American Collectors for the classics but I guess not in this case?

She tried to with me, but I knew they would still want Liability with USAA, so I encouraged her to at least add the vehicle for Liability. Once she did that all of my coverages transferred over including comp/collision. Now, I'm sure I don't have any form of agreed value on it, so honestly I'm running a little risk there as who knows how they'll value it should it be totalled. I fully plan on getting an agreed value policy as soon as mine is graduated. My main goal was to just get a policy on it so I could get through DMV and not worry about getting any violations.

Yes, thank you very much for this info. I've been with USAA for over 25 years and would love to stick with them since my other vehicle and home is with them.

Closing the loop on this, I signed up easily with USAA by calling in and giving them the F5R serial number as the VIN. Thanks for the advice!
