Is the trunk lid that is in stock and for sale on the parts site the updated design that doesn't require any mods to fit the license plate?

Yes but only fits a mark 4.

I have a MK 4. Haven't started much body work yet and figured the new lid might save me some time. I won't be back in the US until later this year and just looking at anything that might save me a little time. The $328 for shipping on it is making me reconsider though.

It won't change bodywork one bit. The only thing that it WILL change is how you might choose to mount the license plate.

I don't want to mod the license plate so I was planning on reworking the trunk a bit to fit it properly.
