I am considering putting side badges on my roadster. Honestly I really like the FFR ones that came with the kit. The only issue is I don’t have any chrome on the car and it may simply not work. I have used tape to temporarily hold them on but at the end of the day I need them on for a bit to be sure.

Question, if I attach them with the adhesive they came with and change my mind can I remove them without damaging the paint or am I stuck.

The answer will inform my willingness to go for it or not.

Appreciate it as always

If you're carefull, you can remove the emblems without damaging the paint. Maybe. I'v seen a lot of people do it. But then, I'v seen the occasion where it pulls a chunk of paint off.

I did not put any on for this very reason. I liked the clean sides and never looked back.

I've had luck removing badges by sawing some monofiliment fishing line behind the badge between it's adhesive backing and the painted body. Any residue left on the paint is easily removed with 3M adhesive remover and a clean rag.

How about putting some clear tape on the paint and then the badges on the tape? That should hold temporarily until you decide. Then when the time comes, you can remove the badges and peel off the tape, and re-apply or not re-apply the badges.

Well that was just the stroke of genius I was looking for.

Thank you sir

I would suggest trying clear vinyl. The worst thing that might happen is it might come off at speed. Depending on what kind of tape you pick, it might adhere to the paint better than you want it to. The clear vinyl could be trimmed to the size of the badge.

I was thinking clear vinyl too, but use caution if you leave it on a while. Google 3M vinyl removal before you try it - you'll see advice from guys who've removed vinyl that you really have to work it a little at a time with a razor blade to work the edge, some goo gone, and a spray bottle with water to get it off without possibly damaging the paint.

I had previously researched the topic when I added vinyl spats - that's why I thought tape with less adhesion might be better.

3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner will not damage paint, and will remove any residue left over.

Be sure to follow the instructions, and let it sit for a while to do its job.

Some people have used Mineral Spirits, but I use this 3m cleaner. I keep it around the house for a
lot of other projects....

would a couple of dabs of clear silicone keep the badges on?
