Heading to the Mustang salvage yard next week to look for a fuel tank, straps and plastic cover/liner.
Is there any year better than the others? Anything particular I should look for or avoid?
Will be using a carb engine.
Thanks

'87-'95 will be your best bet. They are EFI, but you can use the pump hanger location as a pickup point for carb use. If you get it complete it will come with an 88LPH pump (5.0LX or GT model), fuel level sender, roll over valve/vent valve, shield, straps, and filler neck.
I'd avoid the '98 and up tank with the center mounted fuel pump and sender as one assembly, more difficult to convert to carb use, but will bolt in/function the same if that's all you can find.

Thanks Mark,
I should have at least 50 to choose from so I should be able to find all the parts in great shape.

Before you go please do a price check on a new tank from one of the Mustang vendors. I got a new one with the sending unit with free shipping for around $150.00. I ended up tossing the used one I had aquired since it was a little scary inside. If you are carefull what you buy it will already be setup for a carb pickup. A used cover and straps may be a better money saver without the gunky old tank issue.

Good point and I had already priced out new tanks. Will carry a flashlight and check the insides of the tanks. He has several tanks already removed but they are store outside so would be full of water. If I don't find anything that's clean inside, will get everything but the tank. I'm definitely not going to spend the time and money to clean/treat the inside of a tank.

I also initially bought a donor tank, cover, and in-tank fuel pump and gauge float. (if you are interested in any of these, let me know, I can make you a good deal).
After thinking about it for awhile, I decided not to risk it and bought a new tank and will be buying a new fuel pump & float.
Didn't want to have to do it twice (especially after the car was built).

I was lucky enough to find a perfect fuel tank yesterday at the salvage yard. The yard owner and I went through several tanks until I found one that looked new. I didn't need the intank fuel pump so he removed which gave me more access to see the inside of the tank.....looks new. Removed the foam strips on the top and getting it ready for a coat of paint. Also picked up a perfect shield, straps and fasteners and filler pipe with cap. Got a few other parts and paid $100 for everything so was happy.
Thanks again for your feedback and information.
MkIV roadster is scheduled for delivery next week!!!!!!
